Hike and a RAW Picnic

Greetings Raw Food and Beyond Atlanta members!

Come and join us for another fantastic hike and a juicy fruit and veg potluck! This month we will be hiking at the beautiful Leita Thompson Memorial Park in Roswell, GA (located at 1200 Woodstock Rd, Roswell GA 30075). Besides the pretty gazebo, rose gardens, and fountain you can see from the road, this area is actually over one hundred acres of park land, complete with lake, horse barn, dog park, forest land, and even a Visual Arts Center complete with classroom space and gift shop. Once on the trails, the park has a bit of a 'North Georgia Mountain' feel, rather than North Fulton County.  The trails offer varied terrain, but are all very well marked and well maintained. There are 3 trails. The yellow one is 1.12 miles.  The blue one is 2 miles; the red one is 2.25 miles.  The red and blue trails offer a .25 mile extension around the lake. All the trails are very shaded and crushed gravel.  It is wide enough for two people to walk side by side - even with strollers.

Note: Dogs must be kept on leashes on the trail. Try to park by the gardens (not the ceramics house) if possible, as it's closer to the hiking trails.

Please arrive at 2:45 pm as the hike will begin promptly at 3:00pm. We will hike for approximately 45 minutes before returning to the pavilion area for our potluck. Please remember to bring some water to drink during the hike.

If you do not want to hike, please feel free just to join us for the potluck starting at 4:00pm under the main Leita Thompson Pavilion area. Please let us know when you RSVP if you will be attending the hike and potluck or just the potluck.

What to bring:

• A raw, preferably organic, dish for 8-10 servings. Bring a dish that you've made yourself or picked up at Life Grocery, Sevananda or Return to Eden. Please feel free to bring simple dishes. Bowls of fruit and salads are welcome additions to our potlucks! Juicy fruit is a great way to rehydrate after a hike!
• An index card with your name and recipe (or at least the list of ingredients). Let us know what is and isn't organic.
• Your own plate, cup and eating utensils (to minimize trash and stay green).
• Serving utensils.
• Your relaxed self (and possibly a friend or two) and be ready to move, play, learn, share, and enjoy vibrant, delicious food with like-minded individuals! Well-behaved, closely supervised children are also welcome.

What to expect: From 3:00pm until approximately 4:00pm we will hike around the park. From 4:00-5:00 pm we will share in the delicious, lovingly prepared food. During the potluck, we will share any announcements, upcoming events, and recipes while continuing to socialize. So come and get some great exercise and enjoy great healing food, community and learning.

The $5.00 meeting fee is appreciated and helps cover the cost of website dues, supplies, clean up and miscellaneous expenses!

Please RSVP for this event - but only respond "YES" if you plan to attend! Our potlucks fill up fast and once they are at capacity, the additional RSVP's roll into an automated waiting list. When someone changes their RSVP due to a schedule conflict, the person at the top of the waiting list is automatically added to the list of attendees. If your schedule changes and you cannot attend, please be considerate and change your RSVP as soon as you know, so that you are not preventing someone else from attending. Thank you!

We'll see you there!
