The Magic of Mushrooms - Raw Vegan Picnic in Brecksville Reservation

Join us for a delightful presentation on “Immunity Enhancing Effects of Mushrooms” with Jeremy Hutchison. If green vegetables are the King of Super Immunity, then mushrooms are the Queen. Mushrooms play an important role in keeping the immune system strong.

Want to learn more about the power of this super food? Come to the Harriet Keeler Memorial Picnic Area in the Brecksville Reservation. Jeremy is an expert on the many health enhancing mushrooms. His passion and knowledge on this super food is apparent from the moment he speaks. There will also be his health enhancing mushroom elixir available to sample.

The social time will start at 6:30 pm and we will begin eating at 7:00 pm. If you'd like to just hear Jeremy, he will present around 8:00.

Please bring your smile, a hungry appetite, and a raw vegan (organic if possible) dish that has not been heated over about 110 degrees to share with 6-8 people. If you are a creative type then by all means invent something really unique. If you are a newbie or a more simple foods oriented individual then just stop at the market and pick up something raw and fresh that you think will suit. If you are coming as a couple, please bring an extra large, double, or a second entree. If you are coming directly from work and can't bring anything, please still come, as your friendship is of most importance and we usually have plenty of food for everyone.

The entrance to the Brecksville Reservation is off Chippewa Road (Route 82) and Brecksville Road (Route 21). The entrance street is called Chippewa Creek Drive and is across the street from the Brecksville Shopping Center where Heinen’s is located. The Harriet Keeler pavilion is less than a mile down the road on the left hand side. There is plenty of parking just off the road on both the left and right side. Any questions, just call Gloria at[masked]-5052.

A special message from Sandie is: "Because this is an all plant based raw vegan (mostly organic) gathering I would ask everyone to respect the request to keep the potluck just that.  No animal flesh or animal by-products, please. And no cooked vegan or processed vegan food, please. We are all about being vegan and raw.  Fresh, ripe, vegan, raw and organic (if possible).  Also, please refrain from using colognes and perfumes being considerate of those with sensitivities and allergies." Thank you for understanding.

The picnic area is so beautiful. With the constant gentle breeze from the fan, we all felt very comfortable. Jeremy had the audience captivated with his depth of knowledge on mushrooms. Not only are mushrooms beneficial for the body but also vital for our environment. We enjoyed tasting the Chaga and Reishi mushroom teas. They each have a very different and unique flavor.

Sorry, can't enjoy a picnic in 90+ degree weather with the high humidity. Will look forward to next month.

Just a quick note about Jeremy. Besides being an expert on mushrooms and the immune boosting properties of each one, Jeremy has his degree in environmental science. He is passionate about educating people on what they can do as individuals to make our environment greener and restoring its health. Even if you don't come for the potluck, it will be worth it to come to hear his presentation. Hopefully by evening, the humidity will be lower. The park is a little cooler with all the trees to offer shade and protection from the sun. The pavilion is well shaded by the trees. I also will bring a fan to offer a slight breeze. I will also have fresh, filtered water with ice cubes. And for those who don't like to sit on the benches, I am bringing folding chairs.

We usually have this potluck at my office. Unfortunately, the area for the potluck was flooded and it just is not usable at this time. Next month we will be in a new location. Stay tuned for details.
