I enjoyed myself immensely. I met group member Ruel and I was very happy that he was so excited over discovering how green Long Beach can be. I waited to go in until 8:30, hoping other members would come. Somehow I missed the rest of you and I was really looking forward to meeting you and introducing you to one of my favorite places. Please let me know where you were so I can figure out how I missed you.

I enjoyed being on the trail with Ruel. We spent about 2 1/2 hours shooting. I will post photos tomorrow. I hope that those who did come enjoyed the experience.

Judith, Thanks for the offer but I'd pass the park on the way to you :) I'm now considering hopping on my bike with my oldest child and getting in an early workout.

Joe, I live IN Long Beach near Wilson High School, at 7th & Bennett. If you can get here I will be happy to carpool with you. You can email me at [masked]

It was suggested we carpool if we live outside LB. That's me. I'm in Bellflower at the 91/605 interchange (more or less.) Anyone driving by me?

Hey Folks, I just realized that I have a SLIGHT conflict on the 16th for this Meetup. I have to be in San Pedro by 10 AM for my Yacht Club brunch. If we get to the Center by 8 AM I will have plenty of time to show you around and get to know you a bit. I'm SO pleased that all of you are interested. Read my comments concerning parking. See you soon!

Judith, I thought you were the one organizing this? If you want 8am you can make it 8am right?

Ok, I REALLY want to stress that we should meet at the Nature Center no later than 8AM when the gate opens. The screaming kids, parents with double strollers and sullen teens are there at noon. The earlier we go, not only the better the light, but also the more apt to see critters since it is generally cool & quiet. I've been going there at al times of day year round for a good 23 or more years, and I can tell you this is so. How about a vote? Why waste a good photo op?

Just a heads up: This is scheduled for noon. The light will be awfully harsh at noon unless there's overcast skies.

Also, tripods are ok. Under ANY circumstances don't feed or touch the wildlife. We may not block the trail or go OFF the trail. The City works very hard to maintain this Center, much of it through the efforts of Stewards and Volunteers. The earlier we go the less chance of running into screaming, trail marauding kids. Ok, any questions let me know

Hi Folks, I just wanted to pass on the information I received from the Staff at the Nature Center. You can park in front of the Library on Studebaker Rd & Spring St and walk in if you don't want to pay the car entrance fee which I think is $7.00 PER CAR. The Nature Center is on East Spring St. I am going to drive in as I have a yearly Parking Pass. I can fit 4 people in my Honda Accord EX. A few things. Gate opens at 8AM and we really should try to be there around that time.

I've been there before and it is a good nature site but I'll be on the road all April and some of May.

The trails are EASY and you sneakers are fine. Make sure your shoes are sturdy if it rains within a few days prior as it can get very muddy. DO NO FEED THE WILDLIFE!!!! There is a building with bathrooms and exhibits and information. There is also a bathroom about the middle of the 2 mile trail. It is Handicap Accessible.

We can meet in the parking lot at the Nature Center. There is plenty of parking but for convience and getting more of a bang for your buck I suggest carpooling if you live outside Long Beach. I also suggest we meet about 8:00 AM or 9:00AM. It is quiet and only the walkers and birders are present. I will contact them tomorrow & get the particulars on their policies. They charge entrance fee by car, not person. Free if you walk in but you can't park on Spring St.

That would be fine. Here is the link with all of the info. Might want to carpool as it costs $7 per car for entrance on weekends. http://www.longbeach.gov/nature... It might be better to go early as we would beat the family/kid crowd. Much better before the onslaught and more animals come out as it is much quieter. Many Asian folks walk in the AM, and I have seen a Tai Chi group there more than once

Would you be willing to lead this meetup? We can pick a time and post the meetup and hopefully gather some interest. It may be hard for me to find the time these days (although it is possible). Thoughts?

The Nature Center also has a 2 mile & 1 mile trail, and a trail for wheelchairs. I have a yearly pass for $25 which has paid for itself in 3-4 weeks.
