I was very disappointed in this meetup. I was on the first floor because I arrived late and the whole back bar and half the front bar were Barca fans. They cheered both goals really loudly. I wondered where I was. If I wanted to be near Barca fans I would go to Nevadas Smith.

Anyways, I won't be attending any more Classico matches at Mr Dennehys if the whole bar is not for Real Madrid. I'm sure some bars are all Real Madrid fans and I'll find them. I'm just disappointed. I left after Barcelona scored the second goal because I didn't want to be near Barcelona gloating fans.

Please guys, let's move the comments on our future to the message board :) Shiv just opened up a new thread. Thanks :)

And for my two cents, no, Pellegrini CAN NOT...I repeat with emphasis...CAN NOT be fired. Every enemy we have (especially the cules) is praying that we fire him, because then a new coach with new signings and a new system will come through, this current project will fail, and we'll have the underlying problem that has been plaguing us for the past 8 years...inconsistency. Madridistas...friends...countrymen...give the Chilean another year, and you'll see progress. I'm sure of it.

Haha...I guess we're not the only people who thought Ray Hudson (of GolTV) and his man-crush on little Leo Messi was annyoing....

    http://www.theoffside.com/world-football/ray-get-a-room-hudsons-mancrush-on-lionel-messi-gets-embarrassing.html

I can laugh about it now, but hearing him go on and on about it during the game was awful. I think my favorite one was where Messi was "like a zombie looking for a twinkie." Don't ask...

Meetup's talking 'bout changing coaches as if we were changing shoes. Data analysis and research will bring forth the Purple truths.
Everything may be explained knowing CR9's affliction He suffers from Abnormal Shoesitis Syndrome, an extremely rare condition.
We think Mourihno's the answer. He's so special, he's so cool. He'll counter attack to death. He's so ruthless, he's so cruel. But no matter what changes take place, please let's find Cristiano's cure.

    April 12, 2010

  • Jojo

Yes, Elena, you are right. The problems seem to be mental. No question in my mind Benzema is real good, but he is failing under the weight of the expectations. He's only 21 yrs old. Perhaps it was too soon for him to move to Madrid. If I was Perez, I'd tell the kid to get an apartment in town and live with his mama. At least he might feel comfortable. Leo, Mamadou is not the answer. He lacks speed, which Lass has. You have to chase those Lego-playing Farca midfielders. MD can't do that for long.

  • Elena P.

Oscar, I said I want Pelle to continue, but I'm afraid they will sack him, all indications lead in that direction. Mourinho's Chelsea was an absolute machine and played well. I agree with you, they should all sit down and dedice along with Pelle, it's not that dificult. Once thing I am not very sure about Pelle is his motivation skills, part of our problems are mental, too much pressure, and Mourinho would be a person that will give them confidence and relieve all of the pressure from them.

Why not move all commenting to disscussion board? Shiv began a thread earlier. I would, but my bberry is not cooperating (my only source of internet while in the hospital)

    April 12, 2010

  • Oscar R.

Do you all really think Mourinho is the answer?
I really think Pellegrini must stay.
Mourinho is Capello version 2.0. We may win titles, but also fall sleep while we are watching Real play. Personally I do not want that.
I really believe Floren, Valdano and Pellegrini need to plan next season. Also , it will be a good idea give TOTAL power to Pellegrini. If they can not do that we will be taking one step forward and two steps back.

    April 12, 2010

  • Howie

Elena, you're right. The 2-6 was a nightmare that none of us will ever forget. The same goes for the games that followed, but that was after the league was decided. Barca barely showed up in the league after that game as well. Juande was there for many consecutive wins. I forget the exact number. And he also had to deal with the poison Schuster left. I have no doubt we would have won the league with Juande if Schuster was fired 2 weeks earlier. Things last year could have been very different.

    April 12, 2010

  • Elena P.

Howie, please, Juande? He was the WORST coach we ever had after Lopez Caro, do you remember the pathetic image we had losing 5-6 games in a row, including the infamous 2-6?. My 2 cents, overreacting is the worst thing we can do at this point. We lost a game, they were better than us (although not impressive) and it's pretty clear what our needs for next season are. I personally would like Pelle to continue, but if he doesn't, let's bring a coach our club will respect, aka, Mourinho.

    April 12, 2010

  • Howie

The coach I want is Mourinho. He's the best in the world and we're Real Madrid, the most storied club in history. We deserve only the best. If we don't get Mourinho, where would we turn to other than Benitez? Would it be a good idea to see what Juande can do with a full season and not having to clean up the disaster left by Schuster? We would have won La Liga last year if not for Schuster. While stability is key, it should have come with Del Bosque or Capello. Pellegrini is neither of them.

  • Leora C.

oh and #5. Someone remind me why Raul played? This answer won't appear no matter how hard I scratch my head, so I gave up trying...

    April 12, 2010

  • Leora C.

Howie, while everyone knows how much I heart Guti (& am especially jealous of the length of his hair) I think either we start him and net goals in the beginning and don't wait to have Casillas fisting his crossbar or we figure out how to work our midfield NOW in light of the day that Guti joins the Peña and the Redbulls since it's too late to put him in for 20 minutes & think he is the genie in the bottle and will do an obra de arte every week as if the Riazor needs one last conquistador.

    April 12, 2010

  • Leora C.

    1. Look @ El Ratón's goal in slo-mo - clear mano - we deserve the 2:1 - same should be Kosher for both of us. 2. MD6 should have played instead of Gago - if you look back at important games like the first Lyon game MD6 was one of the best players & maybe the only consistent one who held things together. 3. Kaka is not injured and we know that - who does RM think they are fooling? 4. We need to learn how to survive without Señor Mimado's 2nd half turnarounds & figure out how to work our midfield

    April 12, 2010

  • Howie

My other problem with Pellegrini is Guti's lack of playing time. We joke about him, but the man has been brilliant this year and lit a spark for us Saturday. Maybe if he had started things would have been different. It looked like he was on the same page as Cristiano. VDV was awful. Granero hasn't been good lately either. We need a healthy Kaka. As for Benzema, I think he deserves a chance. He's been hurt a lot. But it's obvious he's not the player the world thought he would be.

    April 12, 2010

  • Howie

I agree with everything Jojo said. My take on this is as follows: I wanted Pellegrini to be our coach. When we signed him I was ecstatic and thought several trophies were coming right away. I was wrong about everything. Starting Gago over Lass in El Clasico is enough justification to fire him. Gago does not belong on our team. He does nothing well. Or at least well enough to play for Real Madrid. We cannot accept players like this. We cannot accept mediocrity.

    April 12, 2010

  • Jojo

Part 5: Finally, we lost to a very good team, what seems to be the best right now. But we really beat ourselves first and foremost. Coaching decisions, tactics, missed opportunities and most importantly what I think was that the players didn't believe they could win after Messi's goal. Are we really that weak mentally?
The only shame was when they called off Raul's goal. There was no hand ball there. It would have been a nice ending to his illustrious career, even in defeat. See you sat/sun.

    April 12, 2010

  • Elena P.

Jojo, you're hilarious! Yep, although the article makes lots of sense, I stopped reading when the author said we need to keep Gago. I do not want to keep Gago in the team, he is the most useless midfielder in the history of midfielders (even Gravesen had more substance than this guy), he does not know how to defend or attack! Pellegrini really disappointed me with the decision, any of the Diarras or even Granero would have been a better option that running-like-a-headless-chicken Gago...

    April 12, 2010

  • Jojo

Part 4: Arbeloa is CD, not LB. We need to address the LB position and it seems to me like that kid we saw against Racing was pretty good and could be groomed to be a star under the right tutelage. So, here we come back to Mourinho. Get him to Madrid asap. Not Benitez. We don't want any more cry babies. Speaking of that, why was CR dropping to the ground so much on Saturday? Stop looking for fouls and play on. Had he stayed up on some of those possession the Farsa D wouldn't have been calm.

    April 12, 2010

  • Jojo

Part 3: The most important issue is to address the defense. It starts with Casillas. He's been playing as if he's already at the top. He hasn't shown much hunger lately. Some say it's his new girlfriend. It could be, but I think it's because he sees a D-line he doesn't trust in front of him so he rushes his actions.
Sergio Ramos needs to run back to D as fast as he runs forward. He also needs to play smart and not throw himself into crazy lunges. Shows lack of mental strength. Garay, out.

    April 12, 2010

  • Jojo

Part 2: Van der Vaart pretty much signed his death warrant when he missed that chance he had. See, everyone misses some chances, but VdV missed because of the mental pressure he felt. We don't need those kind of players in Madrid. So, I see Gago, VdV and Mamadou on the way to the airport. Possibly Lass as well but I wouldn't want that. What we need is to get Kaka healthy again and not rush him back into the squad. Yes, Kaka. He's pretty good you know.

    April 12, 2010

  • Jojo

Part 1: Don't read what Goal.com writes. Their most senior writer is a 11 year old who's highlight of his football experience has been a friendly match between Moroka Swallows and Umm-Salal SC. What Real need is consistency but if Mourinho is available you have to hire him. Pelle is a good coach, but he made a mistake of putting Gago in. I kind of knew that though, Jamie can attest to this. Then he took out Higuain and put in Benzema's shadow. (The real Benzema was still in the hotel.)

With regards to Farzalona followers, I am not sure we could ban them completely from the bar. I know we can from the lower level because it was by private invitation. One of our members had 2 farza friends with him, and I didn't allow them downstairs. I know we don't let them bring flags and banners. Not sure we can do much more legally.
Hey Carlos, my stupid Farza friends are not being good winners either! By the way, it was great to meet you.

I don't know about you folks but I have been getting ripped all day by Barça nincompoops...You know something I bet our Peña could beat the pants off their Peña in a fútbol match...I picture a 7-0 shallacking...

    April 12, 2010

  • Sam M.

I was on the upper level, and strangely, there was a significant Barca presence there. So much that there were half-hearted and semi-muted cheers on both occasions that Barca scored! Anyways, a disappointing game, but building a team takes a long time, and considering our current one is brand new, we can only get better. The only way farca can go is down! In any case, im sure we're going to make at least the semis next year. CR9 will finally humiliate farca and get his vengeance! Hala Madrid!

    April 12, 2010

  • Leora C.

    1. Ronaldo has many boots - unless the blue ones are Sergio's.
    2. Higuain seems to always be wearing his ivory boots - this consistency might be contributing to his goalscoring record but the boring color might be causing him not to shine in the "glitzy" important matches, i.e. CL, big teams, Clasico etc...
    3. Marcelo is wearing yellow boots in the pic I posted - if he & CR9 never simultaneously wore yellows then do you think he is hiding in front of MD6 so CR9 won't see he stole his?

    April 12, 2010

In my book, to hear Sergio and Elena singing Cielto Lindo after the match made up for the lack of the collective roar that would have burst forth had Real Madrid scored!

  • Leora C.

For those of you wondering why I have been so quiet for the past few days, I will attempt to explain what happened to me after the Classico - I did not get intoxicated or fall into sheer depression but I started my PhD. (Púrpura hecho Daños) Then my hypothesis went wrong when I saw the following picture: http://www.imagebam.com/image/04f2d976073868/
My research is going to be way more complicated then I had previously outlined... (see next post)

    April 12, 2010

  • Sergio C.

Yes, could you imagine? Both levels were packed! Had Real Madrid scored a goal, it would have been the biggest roar NYC has seen for soccer. I guess we will have to wait until next year!

    April 11, 2010

  • Daniel C.

Just wanted to say how cool it was to welcome all the new faces to MrD's, i was just so bummed out we couldn't cheer on a goal together - was really looking forward to hear both levels of MrD's just explode ... but hey, there's still 21 more points to compete for, and like Diego said, the full-figured lady hasn't sung yet, so Vamos Madrid!

While we walk away from yesterdays match disappointed in the loss, we can't be disappointed with our team. Something did seem off with both Ronaldo and Higuain, neither seemed to have the fire behind their shots as in previous matches, but as a whole I do think our boys played well. They held Messi to one, had more shots on goal and had possession a good deal of the match, it just was not enough to come away with the El Classico win. I agree wholeheartedly with those that said Pellegrini shouldn't be fired. The one and biggest thing that Barca has over us is continuity. It allows them to play cohesively. Sacking Pellegrini shouldn't even be up for debate, look at the bigger picture. Yes we lost El Clasico, but our record speaks for itself.
You all are a fantastic group of people and I am so glad that Jamie found the Pena and brought Debbie and I along. I can't wait until we can come back to Mr. D's and share our mutual love of Real Madrid and soccer in general. HALA MADRID!!!!

Heartbreak! Argh! Yesterday drinking kind of helped! But what about today? Of course, that is where you can find the real Real Madrid fans. In good and bad times!!

    April 11, 2010

  • Oscar R.

Thanks for those links. I really enjoyed reading fansdelrealmadrid.com because I agree with what they said.
I think one of the problems is not giving the coach total power (that's why Wenger did not come).
Also, I think it is time Florentino, Valdano and Pellegrini sit together and have a conversation about the team. What does the team need , if there is a long term plan, and something that to me is very important, working with the young players form Real Madrid B (something very important)

    April 11, 2010

Another heartbreak! Like Bobbito says, we just will have to get on with it, and do a better job nect time!

Regardless of the match outcome, it was a pleasure meeting such an amazing group of people. I am pretty sure that besides the Bernabeu, no other place had a vibe like Mr. Dennheys. Special thanks to Elena, Daniel and Sergio for making me feel welcome. Looking forward to get to know everybody else and for a lot of more seasons to come. And, as I mentioned before, Farsa en una moda, Madrid es todo un legado. 31 Ligas, 17 Copas del Rey, 9 Champions. Its not over until the fat lady sings. Cheers!

    April 11, 2010

  • Cheryl

Damn you, Barça! I agree with Bobbito that changing coaches is not the answer. It only serves to create more upheaval in the organization. The team needs to grow and play more cohesively together and they certainly have what it takes to be a winning side. That being said, the starting lineup was perhaps not the best. Despite the outcome, was a good time as always with the gang. What an amazing turnout! Thanks for posting the links, Elena and Shiv!

i still can't believe this result, it makes no sense! and why was Gago on the field?? gimme a break, he couldn't handle Xavi for his life!! Guti should've started this game - huge error by Pelle on this one! ... legal disclaimer: i did wear a purple shirt, but have nooo idea where Manny gets this purple underwear thing from, jeez!

One more post, for those of you who want to find a good read about our situation, what to do now, I link you this blog that I am a huge fan of, it has been my daily companion for quite a while, the post-farsa game analysis by some of the older bloggers is spot on, and it goes along what Oscar and Bobbito are saying (again, it's in spanish...but you know the drill)

BTW, as a group, we should feel proud, we beat our Penya's attendance record... Donal, the owner of Mr Ds, says we beat St Patricks day and the Super Bowl!!! Cheer up guys, we have to keep improving, we will be back, and when we do, it will be sooooo much sweeter.

    April 11, 2010

  • Elena P.

Bobbito, you should post more often, I loved what you said, it makes all the sense in the World! Oscar, it was great meeting you finally, too bad the game and the crowd did not let us give you a more personalized tour of our group;) Next time then.

    April 10, 2010

  • Bobbito

I agree. Changing coaches is stupid. Although Pellegrini is a dead man walking, this team needs cosistency and continuity. We were beaten by a better team, end of story. No need for knee jerk reactions; just keep building a team mentality and play for the escudo. We need to stop crying our hearts out and get on with it...

    April 10, 2010

  • Oscar R.

Well, it was great being there for the first time and meet some of you in person.
About the game, it was disappointing. I think we played better in Barcelona. What now?
I just hope they (Florentino and Valdano) don't start thinking about Mourinho or Benítez

Once again, we're made to suffer because of the Catalan menace, but at least I could suffer with a good bunch of people. We'll never die. HALA MADRID.
