Our October speaker will be Actor, Director & Producer Dale Oprandy.
Dale Oprandy was raised in New Jersey in a large Italian American family. At age 10, Oprandy began his first successful show business venture as a magician and escape artist.
His passion to perform became the springboard to a long lasting professional career
in the entertainment business. He appeared on such television shows as NBC’s Today Show with Tom Brokaw and Jane Pauley, ABC’s World News Tonight, and The Steve Edwards Show, among others. For over 10 years. Oprandy achieved much success performing at live shows, colleges, resorts, night clubs, and most impressively performing at Lincoln Center in New York City for the International Concern for Artists and Craftsman from the mid 70’s to the early 80’s. While Oprandy was working on his own talent he also began cultivating up and coming talent. At the age of 17 Oprandy managed and produced most notably the show “Elvis Mania” starring Ron Scoini which ran in the resorts and night spots in New Jersey and New York, including the famous WildWood Resort in New Jersey.
Further continuing his passion to perform, Oprandy concentrated his efforts on
developing his acting talents while studying at the Lee Strasberg Theater
Institute in New York City. It was in New York that he built his independent
film career by working on several productions throughout the city in many
capacities behind the camera. This led him to co-produce and star in the short
film “Low Budget” with writer-director Dan Goldman. This career
progression led him to co-produce, direct, and consult on many major television
shows as a Magic Segment Director. Such notable shows include Third Rock From the Sun, Diagnosis Murder, two consecutive years on Kenny Rogers Christmas Specials,
just to name a few. The filmmaker has also teamed up with longtime friend and indie film
producer/director Joey Travolta, to co-produce and act in several movies for
Travolta’s production company.
Oprandy is a member of the Society of American Magicians (SAM), International Brotherhood of Magic, and American Academy of Magical Arts (The Magic Castle) and has been for his entire career.
Dale is currently the Exceutive Director of Creativity at Inclusion Films Workshop, in Bakersfield. Inclusion Films is the genius program by Founder and CEO Joey Travolta. This program is specifically for students with disabilities to harness their talents and teach
them the film industry and prepare the students for careers. In partnership with
his long-time friend Joey Travolta, Oprandy works directly with students with
special needs to teach them the film industry. He teaches practical film
workshop to young adults with Autism, Down syndrome, Aspergers, and Learning
Disabilities. He enjoys seeing the students evolve under his tutelage and help them unlock talents they didn’t even know they had.
