Re: [republican-14] 2nd Amendment ? Who Is The Consistent Defender?

Chris,

Thanks for responding. Of course Reagan was right. But you are interpreting the quote out of context. In that quote did Ronaldus Magnus addresses size of govt. Not national defense. I think Reagan’s policies on that were clear, he was NOT Libertarian, we know by his defense policies as he was NOT an isolationist.

At heart, the Republican party – SHOULD – be libertarian in terms of “size and scope of govt.”

I always say that I’m half between Republican and Libertarian. I’m fully with Ron Paul and the Libertarians in fiscal and “size of govt.” matters. I’m not with him on some (not all) social issues and national defense.

Even if Ron Paul were elected, then Congress would slay him. Again I’ll state – Republicans and Libertarians are different in social and defense matters. Ron Paul is a Republican in Name (mostly) Only...he should join his actual party, The Libertarian Party.

I suspect you and I may have our differences in this and that’s OK.

By the way, I DESPISE the establishment Republicans. They are the reason we are in this Obama/Liberal Congress mess right now. Can you say, “Compassionate Conservatism?” I thought you could.

Martin,

Straight from Reagan, the man himself:

"If you analyze it I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism. I think conservatism is really a misnomer just as liberalism is a misnomer for the liberals?if we were back in the days of the Revolution, so-called conservatives today would be the Liberals and the liberals would be the Tories. The basis of conservatism is a desire for less government interference or less centralized authority or more individual freedom and this is a pretty general description also of what libertarianism is." - Reagan, July 1975 issue of Reason

"Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country." - Ronald Reagan

I guess the Gipper could've been wrong though. I don't know.

Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich BOTH have major inconsistencies when it comes to the 2nd Amendment.

National Association For Gun Rights on Newt - http://www.nationalgunrights.org/the-inconvenient-truth-about-newt/

In contrast Ron Paul stands Very Tall when it comes to consistent support for the 2nd Amendment.

The Montana Shooting Sports Association has endorsed Ron Paul for the Republican nomination for President, and the Gun Owners of America gives Ron Paul an A+ rating.
