The Crisis of Civilization

Wed., August 22, 6:30 PM

Center for Spiritual Development, 124 East 31st Street, NY, NY 10016
No charge to attend.

The Crisis of Civilization is a dark comedy documentary film that connects the dots between global crises. Ecological disaster and climate catastrophe, financial meltdown, peak oil and dwindling oil reserves, terrorism and food shortages – all are converging symptoms of a single, failed global system. Without understanding how they are linked, we tend to deal with symptoms instead of the root causes. What ideas got us into this mess, and which ones can get us out?

Weaving together archival film clips and animations, film maker Dean Puckett and international security analyst Dr. Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed – author of A User’s Guide to the Crisis of Civilization: And How to Save It – prove that ‘another world’ is not merely possible, but on its way.

The real solution, Nafeez says, is to recognize that fundamental change for our civilization is inevitable, and to work toward systemic transformation based on more participatory forms of living. The film can also be seen online at

“A really fantastic overview of the global situation. I don’t think I’ve seen a more comprehensive ‘welcome to the 21st century’.” – Richard Heinberg, Post Carbon Institute

A great movie that connects the dots between many issues and includes a comprehensive analysis of what's going on, what happens next and what we should do. The new and improved End of Suburbia.

Good film. Good people. Too little time for discussion at the event. Assuming many interesting discussions occurred at the bar afterwards, though I could not attend.
