Let's to hike along the Odenwaldbahn, which starts beyond Eberbach. I have never been in this part of the Odenwald myself, so it will be a bit of an adventure.
Weather let us down last weekend; let's hope we have better luck this time. Please re-RSVP if still interested and available. I noticed it will be election day that Sunday, so our German hikers will have to plan to voting before or after the hike
Plan for a full day. We will hike for at least 5 hrs, so make sure to bring good shoes!
It is unlikely that we can buy food and drink, so bring a small backpack with sufficient snacks and water.
If there is a chance for rain, bring appropriate clothing.
Meetup location: Eberbach Bahnhof, GLEIS 5
(the platform from which the Odenwaldbahn departs)
How to get there:
By car (it is usually easy to find parking at the train station); 4 seats in my car available; first come - first serve.
UPDATED INFO: By train and bus: unfortunately, the S-bahn still does not go to Eberbach due to renovations on the track, so you have to take the train from Heidelberg Hbf (departs 9.25) and transfer to the ‘Schienenersatzverkehr’ bus at Neckargemuend (dept. 9.44)
For people from direction Frankfurt/Darmstadt: unfortunately, arrival times of trains from either direction are always 1 hr apart, so I could not accomodate you very well. Apologies. The best you could do is either drive your car to Ebenrbach and be there 10.30, or drive directly to Hetzbach, Beerfelden Bahnhof and be there before 11 am.
What's the plan:
We will take the Odenwaldbahn from Eberbach to Hetzbach; departure 10.39; arrival 10.59
From there we will walk back thorugh valleys and forests in the direction of Eberbach, aiming for Kailbach, where there is an Odenwaldbahn train station.
If we are fast, we may make it for the 4pm train back to Eberbach; otherwise, we will get on the 6pm train.
(For people from Frankfurt: trains in direction Hetzbach leave Kailbach at 16.49 and 18.49)
* Every pathicipant is responsible for his/her safety and health for the full duration of this event
* Make sure to check the meetup site SHORTLY BEFORE you leave home to check for changes. In order to avoid last-minute cancellations, I will usually make bad weather-related decisions on the evening before, but there could always be unforeseen circumstances why I have to cancel last minute.
