Fw: Update from Re Debbie Mayfield Tax Cut & Regulation Survey updates, Common Core, Indian River Lagoon, and more!

From: Alice K.
Sent on: Thursday, October 3, 2013 3:23 PM
Thought you'd want to see this bill on Common Core and the other items.  Remember, Common Core "principals" are part of Agenda 21, which is what 9=12 will be discussing tonight at 6:15 at the synagog on Lake Washington and Stuart.    Hope you are planning to be there.

Please continue to call and email each of the school board members; and write letters to editor and to the governor.    His E.O. does NOT go far enough.     Alice Kreitz

Good morning! This week, I have provided an update on our recent Tax Cut and Regulation Survey. I would still like to know what issues are most important to you, and there is a link in the survey section below that provides an opportunity to vote on priority issues that affect you and your family. I have also provided updates on Common Core, my upcoming trip to Washington to discuss water policy issues, legislative committee updates, and a few updates from around the district.  In Florida, the Legislature and the Governor have taken the steps that are necessary to reduce our state deficit, and we've shrunk government and lowered taxes.  With the federal government shutting down on October 1, Washington should follow the course we've laid out in Florida — lower taxes, less spending and fewer government regulations which I believe equal a vibrant, healthy economy.
As always, if you have a question for me, just reply to this email! Contact information for my office and other elected officials that serve the Treasure Coast is located on the left-hand side of this page.
It is an honor to serve you in the Florida House of Representatives.
With Warmest Regards,

Tax Cut & Regulation Survey
In the last edition of the Mayfield Minute, I included a link to the Mayfield Minute website, where you could submit your ideas on tax cuts and regulations changes in Florida.
I have compiled several of the most popular ideas and requests - would you take a quick moment to vote on which of the ideas is most important to you?  CHOOSE >>
Common Core
Last week, Governor Rick Scott issued an Executive Order directing the Department of Education to withdraw as fiscal agent from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), which is a consortium group that is developing a set of K-12 assessments around the Common Core standards. Additionally, he sent a letter to the State Board of Education with an action plan and a request for three public meetings on Common Core. DOWNLOAD EXECUTIVE ORDER[masked] >>
You can download a copy of my Common Core legislation for the 2014 Legislative Session at the bottom of this email.
Indian River Lagoon & Water Policy
This week, I will be traveling to Washington, DC, along with other elected officials and representatives of various local governments and state agencies, to advocate for federal funding and support of water projects and programs in South Florida. We will be meeting with members of our Congressional Delegation to discuss the Herbert Hoover Dike, the C-44 Reservoir and C-43 West Reservoir projects, and to encourage support of the Water Resources Development Act of 2013. I look forward to bringing you updates on these issues in the next edition of the Mayfield Minute.
Committee Updates
October Interim Committee Week - The House and Senate will be conducting its next set of Interim Committee Meetings in Tallahassee during the week of October 7.
Business & Professional Regulation Subcommittee - Last week, the Business & Professional Regulation Subcommittee met to discuss craft brewery regulatory updates, the status of the Homeowners' Association Registration System, and the Florida State Boxing Commission. You can download agendas, meeting materials, and more at the Florida House website:  VISIT SUBCOMMITTEE WEBSITE >>

After a 16-year hiatus, the Vero Beach Airshow will return this weekend, Oct. 5 and 6, at Vero Beach Municipal Airport. For tickets, information, and more, visit the airshow's website.
I am honored to have the opportunity to work with and support local organizations that serve our area.  These organizations, and hundreds like them, are crucial components of our community, and I am so thankful for the important services that they provide.
Last week, I attended a fundraiser for SunUp ARC, which is a local organization that provides services to persons with disabilities
Boys and Girls Clubs
I also recently had the opportunity to attend an event with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indian River County.
