Help Fred Rossiter Keep His VAB Contract

Please attend this meeting to help Fred Rossiter keep his Special Magistrate contract with the Lee County Value Adjustment Board.
The VAB staff is recommending that Fred be fired from his contract as a special magistrate who recommends whether property owners should have their property tax ad valorem valuation reduced.
Staffers say Rossiter’s online seminar to help people represent themselves shows he is tilting toward the petitioners.
But Rossiter, a Cape Coral-based property appraiser who’s been a special magistrate for six years, says he’s only trying to correct the bias against the petitioner already built into the system.
The VAB consists of two County Commissioners, one School Board member, one Board of County Commissioners appointed member and one School Board appointed member.
The adjustment board UNFAIRLY decides not to review each petition, but instead to accept the decision of the Special Magistrate.{26BF36B6-C4CA-4B86-A96F[masked]}

  • Jack T. Two Lee County residents spoke in support of Rossiter and offered scathing reviews of Lee County’s tax assessment process during a public comment segment of the special meeting.

    “I really commend Mr. Rossiter for what I think is a whistle-blower action,” Jane Bevan said. “I think what he’s trying to do is help the public.”

    North Fort Myers resident Jack Tanner said the VAB needs to fight for property owners whose values are erroneously assessed.

    “The value assessment process is way too complicated and allows staffers to make personal choices,” Tanner said. “Different staffers can come up with different values on the same property.”
