Federal government is encouraging and funding vehicle license plate scanners for local governments.

Human and machine errors will lead to loss of individual liberty, time and expense for law-abiding citizens, cars being towed, and drivers spending time in jail.

16. CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICERS
A) ACTION REQUESTED/PURPOSE:
The Lee County Sheriff's Office requests Board of County Commissioners authorization to submit, and if
awarded, accept funding in the amount of $89,341.00 from the FY 2013 Justice Assistance Grant Program
(JAG). This funding is being offered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.
THERE IS NO CASH OR IN-KIND MATCH REQUIRED. (#[masked]-SHERIFF)
FUNDING SOURCE: U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.
WHAT ACTION ACCOMPLISHES:
Funding will provide the Lee County Sheriff’s Office with 4 License Plate Readers that will be deployed to enhance patrol capabilities and increase officer productivity and deputy safety.
MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATION: Approve.
