Group founder Paul Thompson opted not to renew this Meetup group. Not wanting to let a good idea go to waste, I asked to take over.

I plan to take a very casual approach to this whole thing. For the immediate future I'll be directing members to The Corner Bar & Grill (site of the first meet-up) every Saturday at 9:00 pm. This is a cozy little bar that serves beer and wine---no mixed drinks. It's located across from the old courthouse building in downtown Salem. In the words of Paul Thompson, "this is a really really nice, intimate, unpretentious bar, owned and operated by a good friend who you will be glad you met."

I don't care about the "RSVP" option. Use it if you want to let others know you're coming, but I won't be paying attention. I'm not going to obligate myself to show up, and neither should you. Like I said, I want this to be casual. Just go and meet people and have a good time.

Of course, feel free to recommend alternate night-time venues and daytime, outdoor activities. Think of Meetup.com as a communication tool you can use to reach 40+ other people looking to have fun. Make the most of it!
