Please tell us how you found the group and a little bit about yourself and any projects you may be working on or considering.

Been interested since forever in making stuff move with electricity - Since discovering the Apple IIe had on-board A/D I/O ports, I've wanted to go beyond that. Nowadays I am playing with XYZ machines, trying to control Arduinos and the like so they will manage step motors and associated fun stuff. How I found the group? googling, ... BIG (meaningful) project: inexpensive Braille printer. That depends on CHEAP actuators that do not build up much heat - current technology is heavy, expenside and HOT - Jan 2012 I built a conceptual prototype of a revolutionary actuator, using very plain available tech. Need much testing as to reliability and energy needs, but were it to work it would be a game-changer in the field. Fun in-between projects: vinyl cutting plotter (40%), chocolate 3D printer (15%), batik plotter (12%), a jacquard loom (10%), sugar sintering 3D printer (8%) more "practical" projects: a lock sensor for home security (15%), preset-temperature shower control (5%)

Obsessed about leveraging technology for learning and education. While I rationalise that robotics is a personal no-gain hobby, you don't need to scratch too deep to find that what I really want to make is an inexpensive, relevant learning machine
