Line Following Competition "Engineering Day" in February.

MTRAS is planning a line following competition during "Engineering Day" in February. We plan on having two separate competitions.

One will be for purely discrete robots. What we mean by that is any robot that does not contain an Microcontroller. So no arduino, PIC, Stamp, Propeller, Picaxe, etc. Kits like this or this or this are examples of what will be allowed. The idea here is to get a simple solder or solderless kit so everyone can compete on the same level. First prize will be a 3pi Robot from Pololu.

The second competition will be for non discrete robots. Prize yet to be announced.

Wes O'Heron also donated a zumo robot for a prize. Both of these robots retail for $100.

So get your bot on order or brush up on some line following code. Bring your bots in during the January meeting to build or for practice.

Have a great Holiday and see ya next year!

We are planning to generally follow these instructions on the pololu website in designing our line following course. http://www.pololu.com.... We will be using a wood product that will be sturdier than poster board.

Steve,

Will the course be the same size as the Pololu course? That might be a bit small for my bot :(

Our location in the Adventure Science Center for Saturday's event has been changed. We will now be located in the newer space/planetarium area, still on the 1st floor. Head right when you first walk into the museum toward the planetarium. We will be located by the space jump activity. Line following starts at 12:30pm. It should be a really fun day.

Here are pictures of the two line following courses. The dimensions of the more complicated one is very close to the dimensions of the line following course on the Pololu Site. The oval course is similarly sized just without all the curves.
