My name is Fred Nikgohar and I started the Meetup Group: A Robot In Every Home!
I want to ping everyone to find a suitable time for all of us to meet. Before I do that however, I'd like to give you a bit of background...
I am founder and CEO of RoboDynamics (robodynamics.com). For the past three years, we've commercialized a telepresence robots that sells primarily to businesses. The robot is an Avatar and enables a remote user to participate remotely in office activities. If you've seen the movie Avatar, you already understand the concept. Our robot, TiLR, cost about $10k and doesn't really look like a robot... it does not inspire the emotional connection we each have with "robots". It is also prohibitively expensive for consumers... ALL THAT IS ABOUT TO CHANGE.
In the coming months, I will be publishing a Robotics Manifesto, where I will discuss the current challenges of Consumer Companion Robots, and provide a roadmap for putting a robot in every home within a decade. I started this Meetup group in the hopes of finding other passionate and dedicated individuals who share a similar vision... and to share with you what I'm working on commercially. This group will be privy to seven years of my work... well ahead of any public announcements.
I'd like to setup a meeting sometime in the second half of September. Since this is a relatively small group, please advise with some time slots that would work for you.
Meanwhile, I encourage everyone to contact me with any questions, comments, and/or concerns. I can be reached directly at [address removed].
Our mandate is to put a robot in every home and our mission is to make personal robotics as pervasive as personal computing.
If you like to see a world where man-and-machine live symbiotically and harmoniously, then we invite you to get involved.
Any talent, at any level, is welcome to join.
We are looking for motivated people who love robots - in the following areas:
- Robotics - Application Developers - Software Architects - Graphic Designers and Animators - Story tellers - Robot fanatics
Our main focus is Project Luna, a community of like-minded individuals who want to see robots become a pervasive aspect of human life. The word "Luna" means the moon... because accomplishing this mission is the moonshot of our generation, simultaneously challenging and worthwhile.
The Luna Project has three objectives:
- LunaOS... developing world's first consumer-focused open source and free operating system specifically design for personal robots.
- Hardware Guidelines... a set of guidelines and specfications based on which hardware vendors can develop LunaOS compliant robots
- Luna Community... a community of robot fanatics providing a tight feedback loop, expertise, commentary, and software and application development
LunaOS is to Personal Robotics what Android is to Smartphones. Thanks to Smartphones in no small part, it is now possible to develop real robots that can live and work along humans - in the scale, quality, and affordability that we've come to expect from other digital devices. If you want to see a robot in every home, we must remove (some of the) financial and expertise barriers that exist for developing these complex machines. The Luna Project, by providing a free and open source operating system, hardware guidelines and specifications, and a vibrant community, will encourage (smaller) companies to get in the game and commercialize the Personal Robots we've been promised for decades.
Join the movement, and together we can make history!
