This Season's Last "Rooftop" Hurrah (Potluck)

well, we knew the summer couldn't last forever . . . plump, finger-staining blackberries, sweet peaches that juice down your arm with the first bite, summer corn . . . baseball . . . yes, that's right, baseball season is coming to a close and the rooftop venue associated with it. so, in celebration of THIS wonderful summer and all of the fun (and new friends) it has provided, let's gather on the roof to dine on the last of summer's fare (oh i know, i am so dramatic, but i feel the dark cloud of shipped-in-vegetable-melancholy descending, slowly but steadily, *sigh*) while watching one of the last two Red Wing games of the season. so what about the food? well, that is up to you (yes i am pointing at YOU). each person should bring a dish to share with the group, something with lots of color, definitely homemade, hopefully making use of the wonderful produce that is currently in season.

some fruits/veggies you'll find at the market now:

apples (on the way in!!)
basil, beets, blueberries, blackberries
cantaloupe, cherries (on the way out), carrots, cucumbers, CORN
eggplant (many different varieties)
lettuce
okra, onions
potatoes, plums, peaches, peppers
TOMATOES (i got 3 heirlooms last saturday)
zucchini

if you have a particular veggie in mind and need help nailing down a recipe, feel free to email me. i am glad to help : ) please bring a serving utensil for your dish. i will be providing the beverages; alcoholic and non. children are welcome at this event : )
you may rsvp for up to 5 people in addition to yourself : ) : )
the roof can hold well over 50 people comfortably (as was proven on July 4th) : ) : ) : )

i am excited to share one of the last days of summer with all of my meetup friends here ON THE ROOF!

The group, made up of mostly return attendees and a couple new faces, outdid themselves in the cooking department. Kudos to you all!

This was an excellent variant on the regular meetups. Everyone made super dishes, all following the theme of "Let's go to the Rochester Public Market", which was incidentally voted the best large public market in America http://www.farmland.org/news/pressreleases/America-Selects-Its-Favorite-Farmers-Markets-2010.asp. And what dishes! Fresh vegetables and fruits - from appetizers to desserts. I even got to take home samples of foods that I didn't get to try.

I had a lot of fun! The food was incredible. Great conversation and fireworks. Can't wait for the next meetup.
