This is a moderate ice route 1/2 mile behind the Eagle River Nature Center; generally in the WI3 range, depending on current conditions. The route can accommodate four folks comfortably; two ropes of two. Being out my back door, I've been watching the ice grow this season...it's looking bueno! Kiliam Falls is located very near the Nature Center, so either hiking or biking the approx. 1/2 mile behind the center, then cruising up through beautiful birch/spruce forests 500' vertical to its base offers a nice warm-up for the route. The first pitch is easy Grade 2, with exposure and potential injury if you slipped...usually best to rope-up for most folks. The second main pitch climbs out left of a nice alder anchor to a bomber set of anchors above...assuming the porcupines haven't feasted on the webbing left from last year! Afterwards we can rally at my cabin for brews and refreshments. This climb is a moderate route and would be best for folks who are proficient on ice but not yet climbing Gonzo! We can meet up at the Eagle River Nature Center...although they require a parking fee. My cabin is 500' before the center and I'd be happy to let you park here at my place...plenty of space. Get ahold of me for further details. Looking forward to sharing my secret routes with some new faces...hope to see you there! I can be reached at [masked] or, better yet, calling me at[masked](H).
