I've been "climbing" since I was a tot here in Eagle River back in the 60's; learning how to technical climb in the mid-80's. Have summited all of the official peaks in Chugach State Park and am working on completing the peaks in the Western Chugach. I've been on numerous expeditions to the Alaska Range, spend my summers up in the Brooks Range and have tinkered around in the Wrangells. I call myself a "technical hiker", preferring movement in the hills rather than always hanging out belaying. I do enjoy the technical aspect of ice climbing and am always on the prowl for new routes out my back door here in the Eagle River valley where the approach is as much fun as the ascent!
I'm comfortable leading WI5 and[masked] rock...which I usually do with a pair of crampons on!
You betchya! I enjoy long gully climbs with a mix of rock and ice, with a bit of vegetation thrown in.
I'm a lifetime Alaskan who loves getting outdoors to explore the alpine environment...ice climbing, skiing, peak-bagging and Chugach traverses hold a special interest to me. I've two Siberian Huskies whom I usually take along with me..Kaupo and NeNe!
