Jack's Canyon

Matt and I are going to Jack's Canyon Friday afternoon to camp and climb for the weekend. Bought a new rope and need to get my lead head back on.

This will be a Saturday
and Sunday trip. Leaving 7:00am Saturday morning. Then leaving Jacks Canyon
when we can't climb anymore. Meet at the I-17 and Bell road park and ride @
7:00 am for a car pool.

Beautiful limestone
well protected sport routes with pulling on pockets and edges of mostly high
quality rock. Setting is within a beautiful canyon and climbing can be had year
around, chasing either the shade or the sun. For the majority of the year, the weather
is beautiful (as is common of the desert southwest), with the best time of year
being March through May (springtime), and September through November (fall).
Floods occasionally drown some of the walls and make some of the climbs
inaccessible, this varies by year. Current reports show Jacks Canyon is dry.

Climbs here are, for the most part, very well protected, and range from 5.6 to 5.13. One can easily push their limits here, and do it safely. A clip stick is helpful for keeping
some of the starts safer.

We'll probably be chasing the shade, so I'm not positive where we'll be starting our day. We will set up camp there on Saturday morning. As of right now, the weather shows for
low to mid 80s during the day and 49° for an overnight low. The forecast shows
no rain. Weather: https://www.google.com/search?q=winslow+weather

If you have sport
climbing gear and a rope, please bring them. If you are a new climber, please
let us know.

Driving to Jacks
Canyon, from Phoenix North and West Valleys take the I17 North to Camp Verde
exit right onto Highway 260, drive 32 miles when the road ends and turn left
onto Highway 87 drive until you get to milepost 313.7 you will see a cattle
gate on the left-hand side this is your turn (remember to close the gate behind
you) follow a dirt road for approximately 2 miles to the campsites.
South and East Valley drive Highway 87 drive until you get to milepost 313.7

Great weather and climbing. It was my first time back since the fire. What a shame - all the trees are gone.

Since our group is growing, I made enough chili and pork green chili for a potluck Saturday night. I'll also have chips and salsa. If others wants to bring something to share, by all means, bring it.

We will start on the highlife wall where the three 5.easy are... then to the Swiss wall for more moderate climbing... and will finish the day on casino for more 5.easy and moderates... this pattern should keep us in the shade all day

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
