  • EVENT is CANCLED!

I just got a message from Adam and I just heard from the Mid Atlantic Climbers coordinator. Some of the work they're doing will be at the top of the cliffs and there's always the risk of things falling. There's also going to be some sort of fishing event sponsored by the National Park Service so there will be lots of people and no parking and it is a very small space.  I still want to climb and if anyone is interested we could move the trip to Carderock. We will have to re-group and try again for the Furnace in a few weeks.

I am interested in going to Carderock. If people want to go respond here. I do not know how to set top rope, so I can only go with someone who can. I am climbing 5.10 inside but about 5.9 outside.

I was informed that there's going to be another group of a dozen or so people at Elizabeth Furnace this Saturday. The other group is the Mountaineering Section of the Potomac Appalacian Trail Club (aka PATC-MS, aka Potomac Mountain Club, aka PMC) and the Meetup page for their event is http://www.meetup.com/Mountaineering-Section-of-the-Potomac-Appalachian-Trail-Club/events/107650562/ The parking area for Elizabeth Furnace is quite small and only fits about a half-dozen vehicles. So I am stressing that car pooling to the even or from the commuter parking lot at exit 6 off 66 in Front Royal would be best. I plan on being at the site at 8am with Tim to start setting routes if anyone else with gear would like to join early we could all probally climb early and be done by the time the other group is ready to start since as I understand it they they have a clean-up even first.

I'll be driving from RIC. Are people meeting at the commuter lot or at Elizabeth Furnace?

FYI, I put myself on the wait list. Is the plan to do any top roping? (I'm not lead climbing yet.) If not, I'll pull myself off the wait list.

To climb outside you need a harness, shoes, belay device, helmet. However right now the rsvps are full.

Anyone coming from DC area want to car pool? I also have a top rope setup that I can bring. New to anchor set up though. I think with three ropes we could open it up for one or two more people, especially if they know how to set top rope/have been there before.

Hi Ivria - are you looking for a ride or offering a ride? If you're offering, I would love to join you.

I have a car but the A/C is broken, so not the most fun. I was looking for a ride, but if needed I could drive.

If I go, I can bring 2 ropes, trad and sport gear, and I've climbed there multiple times. I would need a ride from Takoma Park area, though.

Added a waitlist. Apologies for it not being there before. Please comment if you have a TR set up / experienced at setting up TR anchors.

Me and my guest have all normal gear and a single, new top rope, but do not have anything to anchor the rope with.

Capped the RSVP limit to 5, assuming Amy that you have 1 TR set up and know how to set anchors.
