Outdoor Climbing @ Shaffer Rock

A local day trip to Shaffer Rock for some top-roping and general good times. More info about the climbs can be found here.

We're going to meet at the Burger King at 9am, consolidate into as many cars as necessary (parking at the trailhead is very limited) and then we'll caravan from the Burger King.

You will need:

- Harness, shoes, belay device
- Helmet (optional but strongly recommended)
- Lunch, snacks, water

Several carpooling options are available. Let us know when you RSVP if you need/have a ride and where you are coming from.

Before attempting to climb outdoors, it is essential that you understand the basics of climbing (i.e. how to belay properly, what knots to tie, vocal commands, etc...).

Climbing is dangerous and you climb at your own risk. We are not responsible for any injuries or accidents that may occur.

    Few questions:
    Anyone been there before?
Does it get pretty crowded on the weekends..what are the chances of showing up and the majority of the routes are already taken?
What time are you planning on coming back..Looks like it's 1.5-2hr drive, one-way...wouldn't want to spend all of that time driving for only a few hrs of climbing.
When's the cut-off for calling it due to weather?

Adam, could I hop a ride with you? What time are you meeting at the Rosslyn metro?

Hi Ty. I've been there once, a few years ago. But I'm confident we can find the crags. I don't know how crowded it gets and there's no way to know ahead of time but I'll find another area nearby (and/or a gym) that we can go to as a backup. As for weather, Emil and I will make a decision tonight and send an email to everyone with our phone numbers so if there's any doubt tomorrow morning you can call us. As for what time we come back, that's really up to the group.

Sounds like a blast. I signed up to go but still want to grab a ride with someone.
