  •  Great Falls (or Carderock) is the place to go for early morning top-roping. Got to get there by about 0800 in the summertime to beat the crowds and get the top rope anchors set up for Romeo's Ladder and Juliet's Balcony, which are good practice routes in the 5.7 range.

I suggested a time and place but I can change it, just need some feedback from prospective climbers.

Ok so this thread is pretty dead but I would like to get it started again! I just bought a dry treated 70M rope, and would love to climb any day over the July 4th weekend. I suggest an easy beginner climb in Great Falls like Snow Flake or Sand Box Corner or even both. I would need someone who knows how to setup and teach me how to anchor the top rope, and then whoever else wants to join would be great.

"Indoor climbing on plastic walls is the lamest version of 'rock' climbing ever invented. " This statement has NEVER represented the views of this group.

My husband Keith and I have 2 ropes, lots of webbing and quickdraws and have been climbing all over the country for years. However, we have only been getting back into climbing shape in the past few months and haven't led anything in a long while. We are getting stronger again and want to climb outside. Anyone who knows how to set up top rope or know how to sport/trad lead want to have some nice, fun cleaners follow them? Email me at [masked]. Thanks!

Anybody interested in a Great falls trip maybe Sunday 8/3 or Sunday 8/10? I'm at a novice level and can belay, but I don't know anything about setting top ropes or anchors.

So, I just checked the weather and it looks like we may get rain around 11am. May. It's a 50% chance. I'm still game to go out, and worse case scenario climb at a gym if we get rained out. I just want to climb!
Who's in for tomorrow for sure, and is there a meeting site?

If anyone is heading down to Seneca Rocks, we'll be hanging out at the Front Porch for dinner on Sunday evening. I will leave a note at the Gendarme bulletin wall.

If folks want to carpool to save money on parking, I can drive. I have room for 3 and can meet at Dunn Loring Metro at 6-6:15am. Otherwise I going to plan on parking at Difficult Run and hike in.

$5 per vehicle for admission to GF. $20 annual pass (4 trips to climb TR and you've got your value back)

My wife and I are heading down (early Sunday morning) to Seneca Rocks along with one other in our party and returning Monday afternoon. If anyone hasn't done trad climbing, I highly recommend it and Seneca Rocks is just an absolutely phenomenal place. So many classics!

I'm game for TR at Great Falls on Labor Day. Early is best as it is a holiday weekend. Agreed on the 7am meet time.
FYI-There is a 40% chance of T-storms on Monday. Back up plan in case it rains?
I have TR gear-rope-webbing-chordalette-locking beaners-etc. Sounds like we have two ropes so far, so other folks just need to bring personal gear-shoes, harness.
There is free parking outside the park at Difficult Run. Nice hike into the park from there too. Parking is the only fee to go.
