Weekly THURSDAY Sportrock Alexandria

  • August 29, 2013 · 7:15 PM
  • SportRock - Alexandria

If you've never climbed before, YES, it's OK to join us.

There should be enough of us to belay each other if you'd like to top rope and cheer you on if you are bouldering.

If you are new to the Meetup Group in general, check out some of the other event info sections for more details about climbing at Sportrock.

We will all meet up at the front at 7:15 before climbing so we get a chance to get to know each other. Look for the red Meetup logo sign. If you are running late just take a walk around to find the sign.

See you there!

Great group of climbers. Had fun! definitely need to climb more so I can get my fingers acclimated to the walls. Will have to make this my Thursday ritual. Thanks for a great time!

Running a few minutes late. Be there shortly

Hi All. This looks like fun! I have never been indoor rock climbing before. Before I sign up, is there something special I need to do before hand in terms of equipment or purchasing a ticket?

Hopefully I can pass my belay test and then I can Belay people as well.

Okay, cool! My friend and I will be there, we're beginners and just plan on bouldering, and are super excited!

So I chit chatted with Adam on Tuesday- let's all meet by the table by the white board. I'll have a RED HANDKERCHIEF tied to one of my gear loops, so if you are late, just look for me. We should split into groups of three so that everyone is sure that everyone can belay (note: you cannot belay without being certified by a Sportrock employee). As for the guest discount thing, I think we can work that out as this group hopefully becomes a weekly deal...

Hi. I'll be coming tomorrow and I'm belay certified at sportrock, but I haven't come solo before. I'm hoping to top rope. So this may seem silly, but how will I know who's with the meetup group? B/c that place can get pretty busy. I'll be in a pink tank.

I am going to have a sign that has the meetup logo on it and I'll stay near the front. Then if others come late I'll set the sign near our group so they can find us.

I'm also gonna have a red handkerchief tied to my harness.

I enjoyed my first meet yesterday with Adam. He gave me some great pointers with my belay technique. Really nice folks, looking forward to future meets. Thanks Adam!

Tuesday is our "official" SportRock meetup day, so that's best for new people. Adam, myself, or another organizer will always be there. We belay new people for free (just because we are cool Tuesday is our "official" SportRock meetup day, so that's best for new people. Adam, myself, or another organizer will always be there. We belay new people for free (just because we are cool like that). We also double-check everybody's belay technique. The Thursday meetup is more for people that can already beley, or for those who want to boulder. I'm there often on Thursday's, but I'm there to climb. So if you are looking for a belay partner, you can find me. However, if you don't have a belay card, then I can still give you tips, but you'll have to hangdog on someone else's rope.

I have been unable to go to the other locations due to conflicts and distance. I am so happy that you guys have decided to climb on Thursdays in Alexandria! Super excited to meet some new people and climb

If we have one more person RSVP "yes" this event gets announced to the group. I'm climbing today, maybe I'll see you guys there? We can make our official meet up next week.

I'll be there tonight. Usually a couple people from the Tuesday night meetup are here on Thursdays too.

I live less than 10 minutes away from there, but don't get home until about 645. I could totally swing Thursdays at 7/715.

I'm so excited that there's interest! So far it's looking like we can aim for Thursday or Friday. I would like to do 7ish because I won't be able to make it otherwise...

    What's your vote,
    Thursday or Friday?

    August 19, 2013

    • Brindley

      I could do Thursday 7pm

I've been looking for people interested in trading belays Fridays at 0600 but based on the number of people I usually see at that time (i.e.: no one) I suspect it wouldn't be a candidate for a popular meetup time.

    August 18, 2013

    • Emily H.

I could do 7ish - Friday is great because it's not crowded. But Thursday may be better for more people - I'll see which is more popular.

I'm down to meet up on Thursdays! The Tuesday one doesn't work for me cause I have a running club then. Maybe Thursdays at 7-7:30ish?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
