Sport climbing at Exit 38

The overall plan: A hike up to the very top to visit Peannacle Wall. It's one of the higher locations at Exit 38 and so should be dry, espeically because there's supposed to very little rain this week.

The Climbing: Top rope and lead with a bunch of 5.8, some 5.9, and a few 10's. Most of which are four star rated. All are welcome regardless of skill level or if you've been outdoors before.

The routes: http://www.mountainproject.com/v/peannacle-wall/106589403
The rock: http://www.northbendrock.com/MtWashington/Bobs/Peannacle/index.htm

Peannacle has quite the view, so it's going to be a hike to get up there. Here's a nice panorama video of the place
http://www.northbendrock.com/MtWashington/Bobs/Pano/Peannacle/index.htm

Where to go
We'll gather at the Mount Washington Parking Lot (you can click on it in this map and see what it looks like, and the area we're heading to is labeled as Bob's if you want to scope out the trail ahead of time)
http://www.northbendrock.com/Media/MtWashington/MultimediaMap.htm
And after hanging out for fifteen minutes or so to give people a chance to get there, we'll start hiking up. Either join us for the hike or come join us up there if you can't get out of bed that early.

Stuff to bring
Essentials: Harness, shoes, water, sunblock.
Would be handy if you have them: Rope, helmet, quickdrawers, ATC/grigri, chalk, anchors.

Communications
I'll email all the rsvp-ers nearer the date and we can trade numbers to ensure late arrivals or lostee's (it happens) can locate us or catch up or get directions (if I don't reply immediately give it a little while, I might be climbing, belaying someone, or just out of breath from hiking)

When you see the champagne colored Toyota Corola with the 'LA County Coroner' sticker you're in the right place. At the crags look for the 'Union Jack' painted climbing helmet.

Great day! Wishing I didn't get hurt but great to see so many familiar faces, and meet some new ones. Hope to see you all around!

Quite the hike to get up there but so worth it. Very nice climbs (and lots of them) with a spectacular view. Also a shady wall and a sunny wall, and a lot of neighboring areas to check out for future visits. Thanks to all for coming and contributing to most enjoyable day (and I did my first ever 5:10d outdoors). A grand day out :)

Grueling hike but well worth it in the end. Good to see everyone again and to meet a few new people as well!

Where's everyone at? I'm getting close.

  • Cory

Ok, I added coolant to the engine and I'm going to hope for the best... Anyone still need a ride? [masked]

Anyone still planning to head out? I'm looking for a ride.

Checking out Write-off. Our Discover Pass just expired.

Really...37 climbers are gonna climb in 8 climbs? Hope you bring a sleeping bag.

    July 6, 2013

    • Will

Haha yeah, a couple of us already talked about not heading all the way up. Besides these things are usually 50% turnout

      July 6, 2013

    • Mike S.

We could always split into a couple groups and go to another area.

Meeting at Seattle boulder project at 8 seems to be the plan, any takers for carpool?

    July 5, 2013

    • Damon

Yeah, carpooling would be great. See you at SBP.

Anyone know the min rope length for the wall? I am going to bring my 70m but I also have a 35m floating around.

    July 5, 2013

  • Jeremy

I've had something come up, can't make it tomorrow.

    July 5, 2013

  • Cory

Anyone looking to leave a bit later, maybe around 11:00?

    July 5, 2013

  • Jason

Looking forward to climbing! I'll bring a 70m rope and some gear to set TR anchors. I can lead 5.8+, but would need to borrow quickdraws.

    July 5, 2013

  • Erik G.

I'll be driving up from Ballard and can offer a ride to 2-3 other north enders. I'll bring a couple ropes, an extra harness or two, and lead/anchor gear.

Anyone want to climb today (July 3rd)?

    July 3, 2013

  • Mike S.

Hey I'm coming from Bothell and have room for a couple people if they need a ride.

    July 1, 2013

    • Brian U.

Hey I'll probably take you up on that if you've got room

      July 2, 2013

  • Gracie P O.

Just started lead climbing. I'll pick up some quickdraws from REI so as not to rely on other peoples gear. How's the rope situation?

    July 2, 2013

  • Will

Man don't worry about anything being wet, lol. It's bone dry and river time. Bring your swim suits. Everything is dry and climbable and it's HOT in the sun.

    June 30, 2013

    • Bruce M.

Indeed, and worth catching on film http://www.youtube.co...

      July 2, 2013

    • Will

Yeah! It's a little cold but man it's soooo nice after climbing and hiking in the hot sun

      July 2, 2013

  • Mike

Anyone need a ride? I got room for 2-3 depending on how cozy we all want to get.

    June 30, 2013

    • Mike

Sure, I live right by the Seattle boulder project. Figured we could use their lot as a park and ride type deal.

Sounds good, want to meeting around 7AM or earlier?
