Climb stuff at Overhaul, Exit 38, Farside

  • Aug 24, 2013 · 8:30 AM
  • Exit 38

The overall plan: To climb all over Overhaul

Top rope or lead. Beginners, intermediate, advanced, all are welcome whether you've been outdoors before or not.

Getting there
http://goo.gl/maps/z4tDd
We'll meet in the parking lot and then head up. After crossing the bridge, immediately hit the trail heading right and follow it. In about 10 minutes you'll reach the junction that leads down to Gritscone (the big mossy chunk of fun rock amidst the trees), and you'll want to head up to Overhaul (about a 7 minute hike)

The Climbing
Relief Camp: Mostly 10's and a 5.8
Motherland: 5.7's and 5.8's, some 10's
Slabbage Patch: 3x 5.9's and a 5.7

Communications

I'll email all the rsvp-ers nearer the date and we can trade numbers to ensure late arrivals or lostee's (it happens) can locate us or catch up or get directions (if I don't reply immediately give it a little while, I might be climbing, belaying someone, out of breath from hiking, or have no reception at all).

Basically when you see the champagne colored Toyota Corola with the 'LA County Coroner' sticker you're in the right place. At the crags look for the 'Union Jack' painted climbing helmet or ask any groups if they are with the MeetUp.

Stuff to Bring
Essentials: Harness, shoes, water, sunblock, lunch. Helmets are recommended.
Would be handy if you have them: Rope, quickdrawers, dogs, ATC/grigri, personal anchor, cams, chalk, anchors, slings, and such.

A little drizzle threatened the end the day prematurely, but it lifted and we got a bunch of good climbs in, including me and Mike both getting our first toprope 5:10d outdoors.

Can I catch a ride with someone? I live in Capitol Hill but I can jump on the bus and meet you elsewhere. I'll chip in for gas as well, of course. I'm thinking of leaving around 9 or 10.

Hey Candace--are you bouldering at Gold Bar? Fun! Or climbing at Index?

      August 23, 2013

    • Candace W.

I'm bouldering at Gold Bar tomorrow (today)! I haven't been to Index. A must?

I just moved out to Seattle, but my rock climbing gear is still in Israel, would someone be able to lend me a pair of shoes and a harness? I wear size 9 and lead climb.

Is anyone also leaving from the seattle area who could offer a ride?

    Many thanks!

Hi Maryanna, I may have room. I live in Ballard. But I am not going to be getting up at dawn like Bruce likes to do--I'll be going a little late!

See above note. I have dozens you can try on and keep. :-) I'll bring a couple in your size (or close).

sounds good. see you then. actually there is a park and ride right off of exit 12. The south Bellevue one you need to drive about 5 - 10 minutes. I will go to the south Bellevue park and ride on Bellevue way.
