Climb Stuff at Gun Show (Exit 38, Far Side)

  • August 23, 2014 · 8:30 AM

The Plan: Another jaunt back to the Far Side, Exit 38 to continue playing on some toprope and lead climbing on the sport routes at Gun Show (5.8 to 5:10 is the general range we're looking at), maybe explore some of the other areas should we fancy it.

All are welcome whether you've been outdoors before or not, beginner, intermediate, advanced, there's something for everyone. It has great opportunities for first time/refining lead climbing skills and the option of a multi-pitch dalliance for those who want to give that a go.

Location: Take Exit 38 on I-90, turn right at the stop sign. Drive straight following the road as it winds and then eventually heads left and under I-90 to the parking area that is beneath the power lines.

You’ll need a Discover Pass to park here.

We'll hang around to meet up with people at 8:30am and then begin hiking in. Look for the champagne Toyota wagon with the 'LA County Coroner' sticker at the parking lot, at the crag look for the Union Jack painted climbing helmet and cammo trousers or just ask any groups you encounter if they are with the MeetUp

The Climbing
Sport climbs in the 5.8 To 5.10 range with a couple of 11's.
This area also offers the opportunity to practice, refine or learn some multi-pitch skill as there are a few two pitch climbs to pit oneself against.

Communications
I'll email all the rsvp-ers nearer the date and we can trade numbers to ensure late arrivals or lostee's (it happens) can locate us or catch up or get directions (if I don't reply immediately give it a little while, I might be climbing, belaying someone, or just out of breath from hiking). Texting me is the best option.

In the lot, look for the champagne colored Toyota Corola with the 'LA County Coroner' sticker. At the crags look for the Union Jack painted climbing helmet.

Stuff to Bring
Essentials: Harness, shoes, water, lunch, sunblock, Discover Pass

Would be handy if you have them: Rope, rope bag, helmet, quick drawers, anchors, locking carabiners, slings, ATC, chalk, chalk bag.

Yep, there were jumpers when we left too. That water was well low though, but they were just wee kids without the mass to go that deep. I wonder where everyone was. Maybe there's a new awesome crag we just don't know about.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
