I'm in Vegas with a few friends right now. We brought our gear and are heading to red rocks tomorrow. Is this still happening? Call/text me if you want to meet up,[masked]

Yup we are here. Will be in the black coooridor tomorrow.

Black corridor is awesome! I'd like to hit that up when I'm there too...if you guys aren't bored with it.
Eric, how long are you in town? Sounds like we will be climbing all week with a different combination of people throughout so feel free to hit me up too if you feel like climbing or meeting up for dinner/drinks. [masked]
Would anyone be opposed to me jumping in on this trip? I climb at VW on a pretty solid basis, if anyone has any questions?

Hi RR climbers, I have a HOTEL recommendation if you're interested. There is a cool, green-certified ELEMENT hotel at Town Center exit off I-215, which is one exit from the RR exit. Element is a Westin chain but it's pretty low cost usually $120 per night or less, full kitchens, modern rooms, and fabulous free breakfast! Just what every climber needs... check it out.

Sounds awesome, I'll have to check this place out on the next visit! I usually stay at a Holiday Inn or Best Western there on the west side of town to avoid having to deal with the strip--free breakfast as well, 24-hr hot tub...but LEED and a full kitchen is a convincing enough argument for me!
Yeah, sounds awesome. I think we will mostly be camping though.
Hey all! Consider me a maybe. With the timing I'd either have to fly in/out, or I'd be driving from Missoula, MT but then have space in a car for the return drive to Seattle if anyone is feeling like an adventure.

Super duper looking forward to this! Should be really fun!

Hey there Jeff, Allen, and Jerry! Just wanted to let you know that I will be at that meetup tomorrow at VW if you want to stop by and meet me and maybe chat for a bit.
0 · February 8, 2013
was busy this weekend, but we should all get together soon and start some climbing and planning. 2 months and counting.
0 · February 11, 2013
Definitely! I'll be at VW on Mon and Wed nights this week. Then I'm off to AZ for a week.
I was planning to stop by for a bit of bouldering this evening, if I see you I'll come say hi.
I'll be wearing grey pants and a dark purple top. I'm taking off now. I should be there around 6:30.
I only stayed an hour. I hope to be there on Wed but may not make it. I'll post again if I go!
no worries, I ended up meeting a friend who was returning some tools and never made it to the gym. Might be there tonight, we'll see. If I do it'll be around 7/7:30, but i'm still recovering from being sick so it's not a garentee

Ok. Let's plan for another time. I'm not going to be able to make it tonight after all. I'll be out of town next week but I will be back to climbing the last week of Feb.
Hey all! I'm hoping to get to the gym tomorrow night around 6 or 6:30. Let me know if you'd like to meet! :)

lol, we're going to have to work on our timing, or as my friends say I just need to find a new job. I'm on 2nd shift this week, 2-10pm, I'm guessing morning climbing is out of the picture? Otherwise hopefully back on first shift next week.

How many people do you think will go? I wouldn't want to be the 3rd wheel, or 5th.
Jeff, right now it looks like Jerry, Mandy, myself, and a friend or two of mine that might pop in for a long weekend. My thoughts is people should just come out and we'll figure it out. If you're the third wheel or the fifth, I don't think any of us have any specific plans. Just get out and climb and have fun. Don't want to speak for others though, Mandy, Jerry, your thoughts?
Oh no Jeff! I wouldn't even worry about what "wheel" you are. Just getting a group of fun people together to spend some time at Red Rocks and do some climbing. Allen is right, I think we all just get there and plan it as it goes. I'm looking into getting a book for that area. :) As it gets closer, let's meet up and do some gym climbing together and maybe get a beer or something to talk some details...like should I buy a small tent? I have a big one but not sure I want to schlep it down there. Anyway, I'm getting super excited about this trip!

So Red Rock campgrounds are pretty big but there are no reservations allowed. I don't think it will be an issue, most people's Spring Breaks are over by then. I plan on staying there for the first few nights and then hitting the Best Western that is close for the last 2 nights: Thursday and Friday. Unless there is some crazy good deal on a fancy hotel for those 2 nights. Somehow I doubt that. Let me know what y'all think about that. Staying in a hotel the whole time is an option...that means we don't have to pack camping stuff...maybe not as fun though?!

Definately want to camp for a good portion of it, doesn't really feel like a climbing trip without it. And hopefully a good fire. Otherwise yeah after a few days a shower will be nice. I haven't looked at the campgrounds yet, if there are showers I might be happy just staying put and sleeping under the stars. Otherwise Best western sounds like an good option. Also update on my friends, it looks like 1's interested, and 1 wants to come out for a long weekend. So I may stay longer, or show up earlier.
0 · January 28, 2013
Awesome! I have my ticket and car rented to just get me your details when you get them and we can coordinate! :)
I can go but would like to work in a customer visit while I'm there, maybe climb for 2-3 days, work for 1. I can fly down on the 23rd (afternoon), climb 23/24/25, work 26th.

Alright I'm on the vacation calander at work! Sent an email to a few friends I went climbing with in Mexico with.
1 · January 22, 2013
Sounds interesting, my plans for Thailand look like they'll fall through, so this might be an option. Mandy type of climbing do you plan on doing at Red Rocks?
0 · January 11, 2013
*what type of climbing
Well, I'm hoping to lead some sport routes...maybe find an easy sport multi-pitch if exists there. I've followed on trad but don't expect someone to bring all that gear.
I've been looking at Red Rocks for along time now. Now that my friends wedding is official and it kills Thailand this year something like this might have to happen instead. I know there are alot of multi pitch 10s. Probably quite a few easier then that too.

whats the thoughts behind going down midweek and coming back on a saturday, just cheapest flights, or other time constraints?
Hey Allen! Red Rocks is so beautiful, you should definitely experience it if you haven't yet! Yeah, I heard tickets were cheap right now to Vegas so I checked it out and I found the best deals on Tuesdays through Saturdays. It gradually increases by the surrounding days. If you can only go on the weekend though I can check into moving my departure to Sunday morning. I just want some time to recover before I have to teach on Monday.
That's cool, I was just curious, alot of times I try to maximize Friday evening to the following sunday. Give me a few days to check my schedule and make sure I won't be creating any major life conflicts by booking, but aside from that I'd be in, I'm sure I can drum up another 2 or 3 people that I went to El Portrero Chico in Mexico with to round out a climbing group. I know they all had Red Rocks on their list.

Oh where do you normally climb? I'm ussually at Vertical World in Magnolia. If plans go through, prob be a good idea to get everyone together and climb a few times so we all get comfortable with each other's skills.
1 · January 18, 2013
I climb at VW too. I'm recovering from a sprained ankle I got there a couple weeks ago. I'm feeling pretty good though so I think I will be back in a week or so. And it would definitely be a good idea to climb together a few times first.

Okay. I booked my trip and have a rental car. I got the flight on Orbitz but Jet Blue and Virgin America have cheap flights right now...not sure how long the deals will last. I plan on camping most nights and hitting up the best western for a night or two to get a shower in. I'd love to have a group or even 1 other person join me. Give me a call if you'd like to chat about details:[masked]
PS. AVG HIGH TEMP IN LAS VEGAS IN APRIL: 78 degrees!!!

Mandy changed the location for this Meetup
Yeah, the fares are great. What dates are you thinking?
I'm just looking at the fares now. I found April 23rd to the 27th for $183 but I'm looking at other days that week too.
