Announcing a new Meetup for The Seattle Climbing Meetup Group!
What: Three O'clock Rock, Darrinigton
When: June 20, 2009 8:00 AM
Where: Click the link below to find out!
Meetup Description: It's not all about slabs! Ok, mostly slabs but there are some fun cracks and "knob hopping" face climbing too. This is some of the best scenery and best rock I have found at a Washington crag.
Please indicate in your rsvp if you can lead, have a rack and rope(s).
In short if you have no experience on trad or multipitch routes contact one of the people that can lead and see if they will take you under their wing.
This is not a sport climbing area but there are a few bolted routes. Most routes require a moderate rack. It takes two ropes to get down from many (most?) of the routes here.
Darrington climbing sometimes has "spicy" runouts and older 1/4" bolts, however many routes have been updated.
We'll meet in the west parking lot of Thrifty foods in Arlington, they let carpoolers leave their cars there. Those of you from down south may want to arrange carpools up to Arlington.
The last 8 miles of the drive into 3 oclock are on a gravel forest service road with some "minor" washouts, but doable in most cars. It's about a 20 - 30 minute walk in on an established hiking trail to the base of the rock.
The usual disclaimers apply:
-Climbing is dangerous.
-You are entirely resposible for making sure the people you climb with are safe.
-There were many large mesquitos last weekend. Come prepared, the best defense I found was to get as high as fast as you can :-)
