The meetup in Moab is fast approaching and move quickly to get yourselves some accommodation.
I am traveling down on Wednesday, 21st November and returning sometime Saturday, 24th. My vehicle is full.
I am camping at the Moab Rim RV Park, 3 miles south on Highway 191, of central Moab. I believe the sites I have booked are maxed out on people/tents but will look further into this.
I will lead a small team on a circuit hike through some of the best of Canyonlands - this will be on Thursday, 22nd. For many reasons, I will keep numbers small and already have some folks signed up for the trip. Please contact me if you would like to join or be placed on the wait-list. Please see below for some features of this magnificent circuit.
On the Friday I plan to rock climb, maybe Potash Road just outside Moab. Although there are a lot of single pitch sport and trad it will not be like the evening meets we had this summer with lots of topropes set up. So, please get yourself a partner, etc, if you want to climb. Do contact me and I will try to line teams up. And, of course, we can discuss at the Movement Monday meets.
As to accommodation, I suggest you start to link up with others and get something booked. There is a highly recommended hostel/hotel with both private rooms for up to 4 people or dorms: The LAZY LIZARD, Moab. There is a lot of camping options - please look them up. I will try to facilitate groups for accommodation when I get back from Thailand in early November.
Moab is a 5-6 hour drive from Boulder and is in spectacular country. Some of you may know it well? It is part of the best of the "Desert Southwest".
On one day, I will lead a small group on an 8-10 hour circuit of Canyonlands National Park, just a small sliver of this amazing area but we will walk thru slot canyons, see the Green River from high above, go by natural arches, climb rock or ladder accesses to other canyon systems - a ball and blast. One of the very best short journeys in the World but you need to be fit.
Walk and explore Arches National Park ...................... or climb a tower......big and scary and full-on, desert trad.
And sport climb on terrific sandstone just outside Moab on Potash Road...........single pitch and lazy/easy access with, from the car, belays.
Tough folks can get-it-on at Indian Creek for marvelous rock climbing on splitter sandstone, seen on the way into Canyonlands.
Take your mountain-bike because this is the capital-par-excellence!.........Get a day on a trail or two.
And then............there is GOLF.............yawn............ though I do love it! If you must, some of the best US golf is to the south in St George.
Let's get this booked up..............carpools and motels or camps (I will research all and give some ideas). For me, I will be booking a motel. Folks - book motels too and get others to sleep on the floor and share cost.
