Announcing a new Meetup for Rocky Mountain Kite Association!

What: Sandstone Ranch Park in Longmont Kite Fly

When: Sunday, August 15,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Sandstone Ranch Park
3001 E. Ken Pratt Blvd.
Longmont, CO 80504

All Kiters are invited to Fly up north, near Longmont. Kiter Paul Glasspoole, from Frederick is trying to get more kiters to join him at Sandstone, which is about a 45 minute drive from downtown Denver.

I (ROBIN) along with Ted Willis, and whomever showed up from the Foothills Kite Club, held the Second Sunday Fly at this location from 2007 to 2009.(Ted may be there, unless he went to the WSIKF fly in Washington State).

Due to an apparent lack of interest in 2009, I started second Sunday Meetup flies at Stapleton to promote OSOW.

However, in 2010 more Kiters are flying at Sandstone again. The Foothills Kite Club still considers Sandstone the Second Sunday home field, so we have 2 locations here in Colorado with a Monthly Fly at the same time. After OSOW, I propose we try to move the lesser popular of the 2 locations to the First Sunday, or Third Sunday, in hope that everyone North or South will attend both Flys.

Sandstone Ranch Park consists of several soccer and football fields. The main fields have large light towers, Nice for evening flying, if they are turned on, but an obstacle for kites so don't fly too close to them. Winds are variable just like the rest of Colorado, the open space helps however.

Below is an email from Paul Glasspoole.
" Some kiters flew at Sandstone when we were at Stapleton last Sunday.

I was there for 5+ hrs. Winds were great but shifty.

When I first got there, there were two large foils that were rolling around in the field for the first 1+ hrs.

I broke two kites. The ferrel inside the lower spreader on the Zephyr and the lower leading edge on the Quantum Pro SUL (flying in too high of a wind).

Alan and Jim were there with me.

I gave away two kites to a father and his kids. An hr later they were still flying them. They were VERY appreciative.

I really like Sandstone. It is close to my house (20 minutes) and always open with space. Since I have tried to fly in many places that SUCK I am hesitant to drive the hr to get to Stapleton. I can see that I probably need to though.

Anyone else on this list want to go to Stapleton this coming Sunday to see the results??? Let me know what you are thinking.

Robin...are you going to be there Sunday?"
