D&D 4th Ed - Forgotten Realms - North Austin

System: D&D 4th ed
World: Forgotten Realms
Start Point: Neverwinter, north of Waterdeep
Levels: 1st level.
Max Players: 5
When: Would like to play on Sunday if others agree on this.
First meetup: March 30th, meet and greet and if enough people show up create characters. We will also discuss schedules and etc to finalize our first game date.

This is a new game and I am looking for 4 to 5 players who really get into role playing and combat tactics. I run my combats hard & fast, so yes there could be player death. So as a player you really need to know the abilities of your character so you can push the limits. I expect you to have a copy of the basic rules (print or digital) and to help me as we play to find obscure rules and etc so the action can continue uninterrupted!! But what really jazzes me are the players who really get into their character's personality... Woot Woot!!

Our game has started out in the month of Nightal (December) often referred to as The Drawing Down. A bitter cold is upon the land, but winter has yet to fully engulf the region in snow and ice. As you already know, many adventurers make their way to Waterdeep to seek adventure and that is what each of you have done. Many of you; while having your own reasons to be here, all seem to have spent your hard earned gold and as luck would have it, have found quick employment taking you to the city of Neverwinter as a guards. I got here a bit early. I'm sitting at the table right after the game shelves. Look for a guy with short hair and a laptop.

Sounds great! I will bring my computer so we can get them all entered via the online character repository.

I'm leaning towards a Desert Wind monk or a Thaneborn Barbarian. I have rough character ideas for each of them, particularly the barbarian, and I haven't played either build. I an roll something else up if the Eladrin is set up to be more of a striker than a defender if I need to.

I'm definitely interested if you still have an open spot at the table. I'm very with the setting and the system and this game sounds like a great one to be a part of if you will have me.

I tend to play concepts first then build characters from that. Start with a wise cracking warforged, for example, and go from there.

I have seen them played in the realms, I forget how they worked them into that world, but it can be done.

I actually have an Eladrin Fighter I've been wanting to play for a while. I'm somewhat familiar with the setting (I've read the Dark Elf and Icewind Dale trilogies, and a smattering of other books, though it's been a while), but there is a good deal that's out of date for me.

On the other hand, I've been gaming for a long time (20+ years); I've read the 4E players Handbook 1, and I'm pretty good with strategy & tactics.

Some of it is story style (which is hard to explain, but obvious once play begins), some of it is technical. I prefer a more cinematic style that encourages the kinds of things you might find in action movies, rather than the grittier style you might find in war movies. (In action movies, rushing the enemy make you heroic. In war movies, rushing the enemy gets you killed.) Some questions for you:

What books are you allowing stuff from? I ask because, when I only had Player's Handbook 1, that was all I allowed.

There is a Fighter feat in the PHB1 called Shield Push. Would you let me take a variation on that feat where I have to be armed with a spear, rather than a shield? (In all other ways, the feat remains exactly the same.)

      Thanks for your time.

If it is in an official D&D book or in their online tool -- I do not mind. As far as story style, that really comes down to the players and how they play the game. I do my best not to be a rat bastard of a DM, but running up to a dragon and hitting it.. well, only the most well prepared better do that. ;)

Have a lot of love for the Realms (though not so much for the 4E version, still time moves on). I tend to play the heroic type, even if not necessarily good. The above average adventurer trying to overcome the epic.

Well let me know if you are going to be able to make it!! :)
