Evelyn de Rothschild
Sunday Interview: Sir Evelyn de Rothschild: 'To be rather abrupt, I don't think there's been a great change since 2008' One of the great City veterans and scion of the financial dynasty, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild tells Andrew Cave why banking culture needs to be reformed if lenders are to regain public trust. Veteran investment banker Sir Evelyn Rothschild is far from convinced that enough is being done to transform the financial and regulatory landscape of the City, where he has worked for more than five decades. Britain's financial system stands at the threshold of what's being hailed as a historic year for regulation and governance but, frankly, Sir Evelyn de Rothschild has seen it all before. – UK Telegraph
Dominant Social Theme:  We need a deluge of financial regulation.
Free-Market Analysis:  Sir Evelyn de Rothschild is making points about one of his favorite topics in this just-released series of remarks. That topic is financial regulation.
Evelyn de Rothschild – surely one of the more powerful men in the world – is focused on financial regulation because that's how the power elite operates ... via mercantilism. The larger and more powerful government is, the more controllable it is, from the top elites point of view.

A bill to register gold and silver coins: It had to come. It has been introduced in Illinois, the most anti-gun state in the USA. ... Creates the Precious Metal Purchasing Act. Provides that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall obtain a proof of ownership, create a record of the sale, and verify the identity of the seller. Provides that a person who is in the business of purchasing precious metal shall not pay for the precious metal in cash and shall record the method of payment. Requires the purchaser to keep a record of the sale for one year or, if the purchase amount is over $500, for 5 years. Provides that a person who violates the Act is guilty of a petty offense and subject to a fine not exceeding $500. Provides that the Attorney General may inspect records, investigate an alleged violation, and take action to collect civil penalties. − TeaPartyEconomist.com
Dominant Social Theme:  This is to keep everyone safe.
Free-Market Analysis:  Thanks to economist Gary North for this one. The bill, Illinois SB3144, passed the state senate in the spring and was handed off to the house this fall. With three amendments introduced in the house, it now sits in committee (see  ilga.gov for progress). But we're not ready to announce from our perspective that this is the rollout of an elite dominant social theme.

Birthers Suggest Impeaching Chief Justice John Roberts The birther movement is now targeting Chief Justice John Roberts for impeachment if he swears in President Barack Obama for a second term later this month. Craige McMillan, a columnist for the conservative publication WND.com, wrote a piece last week asking Roberts to not swear Obama in, because, according to McMillan, Obama does not meet the Constitution's definition of a natural born citizen. In the piece, McMillan claims that Obama is not a citizen because his father was a citizen of Kenya and the United Kingdom, and that Obama cannot be "a natural born citizen" because his father was not an American citizen. Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was born and raised in Kansas by parents who were born in Kansas. – Huffington Post
Dominant Social Theme:  These crazies are at it again. The less impact they have, the more they push.
Free-Market Analysis:  In this video, we can see one of the most successful politicians of our age focusing on the agenda for his second term. The tone is resolutely determined and optimistic.
