Subject: CON-CON LEGISLATION

A Bircher in Dallas who is on the ball found a filed bill that calls for a con-con, HJR 55 http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Members/Members.aspx?Chamber=H.  While it may not be the only one filed, it is part of what we've been watching for and needs immediate attention.  It's be assigned to the Federalism and Fiscal Responsibility Committee - the same committee considering other bills we've already directed your attention to. Including HB 149 (nullifying sections 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA), HB 553 (preservation of the Second Amendment), and HJR 48 (guaranteeing that Texans have a right to choose or decline to choose Health Insurance Coverage).  This is shaping up to be a very important committee.

Federalism and Fiscal Responsibility Committee

Members:

Brandon Creighton, Chair    Austin:[masked], District: [masked]
Cindy Burkett                     Austin  [masked]        District:  (972) [masked]
Scott Turner                       Austin (512) [masked]   District:  (214) [masked]
Eddie Lucio                         Austin (512) [masked]  District  (956) [masked]
Armando Walle                   Austin (512) [masked]  District (713) [masked]

The chair, Creighton, has gone on record as being conservative and a champion of the Tenth Amendment, and freshman Scott Turner promises to be liberty-minded.  Turner was selected by David Simpson to stand with him at Simpson's Constitution Day event last fall.  All that to say that there are members on this committee who are hopeful.

While our faithful friends visiting the Capitol next week will be concentrating their visit on informing all reps about this very issue, the con-con, they will also be taking the opportunity to visit with their own representatives and committee members about this.  Please support them by beginning now to make calls and visits to your reps in their district offices, and phone calls to their Capitol offices.  Information here:  http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/Members/Members.aspx?Chamber=H

So, to the folks traveling to Austin next week, make sure and include visits to these committee members on your schedules. This is of extreme importance in order to protect the US Constitution!  If you haven't done so, read this outstanding article on the reasons we don't want a con-con, or just read it to refresh your memory.   http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/constitution/item/14109-how-the-compact-for-america-threatens-the-constitution

Thank you for all your hard work-
