The Long-Awaited Arrival of 1984
Anyone who has ever read "1984" or seen the movie based on George Orwell's book that depicts tyrannical governmental control might say we're not too far from it.
The recent discovery of the federal government's National Security Agency spying on Americans underscores the point. Yet, members of Congress either act shocked over it or try to defend this blatant shredding of the Fourth Amendment. Keep in mind this was bipartisanly propelled forward by the so-called "War on Terror" in order to help keep Americans safe and free. However, it does neither.
Politicians not stepping forward to right this wrong have misplaced their priorities. JBS members are staunch supporters of repealing the Patriot Act and have fought against its renewal. Members are being asked once again to swing into action by locally educating others in the community, exposing the unconstitutional behemoth that the federal government has become.
This is a perfect time to discuss with others what the Fourth Amendment protects, how it should not be legislated away, and what we can do about protecting it. And what we can do is to get back to the Constitution to maximize liberty and minimize tyranny.
The U.S. House of Representatives needs to be defunding all of the programs and agencies that violate not just Americans' privacy, but all that work against the Constitution. Put your outrage into action, and make it long term action that brings solid outcomes that cannot be swept away with the 24-hour news cycle.
Be sure to schedule time at your next Chapter meeting to discuss local action. Not a paying member or part of a Chapter? Click here to see if a local Chapter is in your area, and then click here to join.
