Dear Friends of Liberty, Christian Schneider, the organizer of the Munich Libertarians Meetup, brought up an interesting lecture at the Amerika Haus: Lecture by Professor Michael C. Munger, Libertarian candidate for governor in North Carolina 2008. We meet shortly before. Afterward have a beer and go out for food. Tuesday, 30 June 2009, 7 p.m. The Economic Crisis – History, Policy, Global Risk Lecture The American Financial Crisis and the World Economy Admission free Many people have tried to blame either "government" or "markets" for the financial crisis. However, there is more than enough blame to go around. In fact, the sequence of events that led to the collapse of much of the American financial system is a cascade of errors. How can this sequence of mistakes, clearly visible in retrospect, teach us about how to avoid similar mistakes in the future? And what can other nations learn from America's mistakes? Michael C. Munger is Professor and Chair, Political Science, and Professor of Economics at Duke University. He has taught at Dartmouth College, University of Texas, and University of North Carolina, and worked as a staff economist at the Federal Trade Commission during the Reagan Administration. In 2008, Munger was the Libertarian candidate for governor in North Carolina. Organizers: Bayerische Amerika-Akademie, B.A.Z. Amerika Haus Program: http://www.amerikaha us.de/programm.html And of course, also coming up, our Meetup next Monday at 19:00 Central European Time ;-) Please remember to RSVP, missing RSVPs create the impression that the interest in our Meetup is lower than it really is! Any "Maybe" is also helpful, as i need the notice to edit the attendance list after our meeting. I don't always remember the names (especially when members are using a nickname). Many greetings! Bruno

Dear Friends of Liberty, as our meetings always seemed a bit too short (totally subjective impression on my part), i rescheduled the meetup to start one hour earlier, at 7:00 PM. I also hope to accommodate everyone who likes to have dinner sooner than 8:00 PM. Any comments are welcome :-) Till next Monday! Bruno

Dear Friends of Liberty, the next Meetup is coming up. Did you read about the states that reaffirmed their sovereignty? Pressure on the federal Government is building up, definitely something worth monitoring! See you next Monday, Bruno

Dear Friends of Liberty, we didn't discuss the new location last time as we were few in numbers, so it momentarily stays the same. The Campaign for Liberty builds up steam in the states and Ron Paul seems to give more and more interviews. It gets interesting Greetings, Bruno

Dear Friends of Liberty, during the last Meetup we gathered ideas for a new Meetup-location. The most promising idea was to look for a Room in the Seidl-Villa in Schwabing, the use would be completely free. But for now, we keep our last Location, the Fai Chi close to the Münchner Freiheit (quite adequate ;-) The Fai Chi is calm and not expensive. Only drawback was that it was a bit cold last time, so remember to dress accordingly. We also discussed what kind of steps we, as a Meetup, could take to support the idea of liberty in Germany. The suggestions i sent some time ago where to broad for a small group as ours, so we discussed more local actions. The rough idea is to search for and talk to people about the libertarian/liberty ideas that my be interested. How we intend to do this will be the topic of the next Meetup. Johanna and me explored the ideas on how to reach people a bit further in the subway on our way home: The Meetup would be an excellent instrument for learning on how to convince other people about the ideas of liberty. We already exchange informations, but be can go further. I think some, if not many of us already made the experience of trying to convince someone we know and being faced with all the usual counter-arguments that seem to be a part of the local folklore. Some counter-arguments will be justified but based on a wrong idea of our views, some will be simply a parroting of heard arguments without further reflection on them and some will plunge straight into the entrails of the whole clash of the different political philosophies. Here is something we can do, and really effectively so too: We can gather these typical counter-arguments and try to develop good refutations for them. This would extend our munition for future conversations, and we would learn to be more convincing. Not only that, we also could then share these refutations with other Meetup groups. Some arguments against (true/libertarian) capitalism and liberty are so deep-seated that almost nobody seems to question them anymore. There is a strong need for good and catchy refutations and i think we are able to come up with some good ones. To come up with these refutations we could form two groups during our Meetup and assign one group the role of the "Devils advocate" while the other has to defend our positions. I think this could be fun :-) Until next week ! Bruno
