Gary Johnson got 1% of the vote in California and 1.1% in San Diego County according to the SOS (Sec. of State). According to the Libertatian Party he set a record for most votes for a LP presidential candidate. He got the most votes in New Mexico where he was governor. Why more in NM? Why did Obama win/Romney loose? Voter Principle:
What do Jesse Ventura, Arnold Schwarzenegger and incumbents have in common? Name Fame. In other words, their names were famous, but voters knew little to nothing about them when the voters voted for them. Most people do not research candidates. They “go with the flow” (herd instinct bias, conformity principle). The only way for a non-incumbent to win is to get more Name Fame than the incumbent, if any, and other candidate(s). Name Fame is how bad and/or corrupt politicians keep getting reelected. The media has major influence on Name Fame.
Voting method for primary elections and other polls: Most voters vote for the most famous name (Name Fame). “Reasoning” used - the candidate that can “win” against the anticipated candidate of “the other party”. The rest of the voters vote for the person.
Voting method for general elections: Partisan voters vote for candidates of their party because of Ingroup Bias. Most nonpartisan (swing) voters vote by Name Fame. The rest of the voters (5%+-) vote for the person.
Ingroup Bias (preference for one’s own group(s): Preference for one’s political party, representative, candidate, political ideology, religion, race, etc.. This bias blinds people to the truth about their group when the truth is negative. This allows corrupt politicians to get reelected.
