I agree with your points, Mike.  The efficacy of minimum wage laws is grounded in flawed Keynesian thinking.  Requiring employers to pay more than would be freely negotiated with willing workers leads to inflation, particularly hurting those on fixed retirement incomes or savings.

The use of government force should always be limited to securing rights not violating them. Laws are based in that principle not in some foggey notion of benefit to the collective.

Once again Ken shows that he is in favor of food stamps just not for the illegals as he call them.

As far as public education goes that is another socialist program that ought to find its own demise.

I guess Ken is a proponent of minimum wage. Are you proposing 15 dollars an hours? Why not 100 dollars an hour after all it will increase the profits and all will have more money to spend??

This seems like quite a reasonable argument, Ken.  My question to you is if government is "perfectly justified" and even "obligated" to use force or the threat of force against businesses BECAUSE illegal immigrants are stealing taxpayer money through social services... and also "driving down wages" (I would say they are allowing unskilled wages to remain low, thereby allowing products to remain competitive in the market), are they only "perfectly justified" and "obligated" because you feel E-Verify is so simple and non-burdensome, or would they be equally justified and obligated to use force and the threat of force for anything else government deems reasonable against the business owner (who is somehow guilty by association for the looting of taxpayer monies handed out by government to non-citizens)?

Government is, by definition, force. Not all laws and regulation are bad. Government use of force to enforce laws and regulations is justified when the benefit of the law of regulation outweighs the burden created by the law of regulation. The burden of using E-Verify is small to none. The benefit is the elimination of a large pool of unskilled labor driving down wages.

The crimes from your perspective are "stealing my money" and "driving down wages".  We can argue about which is the more egregious crime, but those who are working are not the ones on welfare -

No. If a couple working in minimum wage jobs places 3 children in the public schoolm system, the (national average) cost to taxpayers is $10,000 per year per student. Plus, there is the intangible cost of the deminished quality of our own childrens' education due to overcrowded classsrooms. (In the California public school system, 40% of the students are illegals or the children of illegals.

Lastly, half of all people using food stamps, are working people. Illegals working in minimum wage jobs qualify for this benefit even if theyaren't on welfare.

businesses that illegally hire someone to do a job you won't do are actually lim iting the theft of your money.

When wages for unskilled labor go up because the jobs are hard to fill, wages increase all the way up the ladder. If you pay somebody $15 per hour to flip hambergers, you must pay the assistant manager and manager more than this. If someone works in a warehouse, you have to pay them at least as mush as the worker at McDonald's. When all these people have more money to spend, it increases profits of all kinds of businesses.

In the 1950s, a person could actually live on the wages from a minimum wage job and do so without government assistance.
Yes, there are multiple reasons for this, but todays' oversupply of unskilled labor is certainly one of them.

I will respond to your metaphor by saying that I have the right (along with everyone else) to use a gun to protect what is mine.

When we are invaded by millions of people who enter our country illegally thereby stealing my money through their use of social services and by driving down wages, the government (acting as my surrogate) is perfectly justified in using force to prohibit businesses from hiring these individuals. In fact, I would argue that the government has an obligation to do this to protest the interests of its citizens.
