Americans Elect: Ron Paul the ONLY one to qualify?
For those that don't know about Americans Elect, it's a non-partisan organization created specifically to nominate an independent candidate for president in 2012 through an online voting process. Its website is: www.americanselect.org
The organization has raised $30 million dollars, has spent $9 million just on its website alone and millions more to get ballot access. The fascinating part is that with 18 days left Ron Paul is probably the only candidate that is even close to qualifying. He needs 1,000 verified voters (delegates) in each of ten states. As of now, Ron Paul needs 5,899 more votes from verified members in CA, TX, FL, NY, PA, OH, MI, WA, NC, VA! (The next five states he is closest to fulfilling the 1,000 vote requirement is: IL, GA, NJ, CO, TN) If you are in any of these states make sure you sign up and support Ron Paul now! www.americanselect.org
Note: If you are a state or national delegate for the GOP it may be better not to participate. However, the chances of the GOP disqualifying delegates from participating in this seems blown way out of proportion.*
Imagine, AE has over 466,000 facebook likes and gets national exposure and press. If Ron Paul qualifies tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands will be introduced to Ron Paul and his message. Most people affiliated with this website are independents and are very likely to become Ron Paul supporters. If Ron Paul qualifies and is drafted it will make headlines. Even if Ron Paul declines the nomination it will make headlines!
1) To have millions of dollars worth of press attention
2) Potentially save millions in ballot access
3) To influence tens of thousands of Independents
...there is absolutely no reason why we should not be spreading the word as far and wide as possible to get Ron Paul to qualify. He will probably be the ONLY one that will if we spread the word. Let's do this! www.americanselect.org
Think about it... Ron Paul has thousands and thousands of supporters who vote on these less meaningful online polls all the time. Why aren't we all over this? This one actually counts. It only takes a few minutes to get verified and vote for something potentially very signficant! Please spread the word everywhere! www.americanselect.org
*Further note below:
This rumor, based on GOP Rule 11(b) and 15(c)(3), does not strictly apply to Americans Elect delegates as our Rules are not “state law” as referred to in the GOP Rules. But more importantly, AE participation is private and will not be released.
Bottom line: even if the GOP Rules Committee decided that the spirit of their rules required disqualification of those participating in the AE process, there is no way the GOP could enforce the rule because they would have no way to identify AE participants.
