Thanks to those that came to the meetup last night. I enjoyed it a lot.
Torsten had a good suggestion I wanted to run by you. Would you like to have some brief presentations about various Rails plugins people are using?
We'd get a more appropriate space if we decide to do this. Torsten and I talked about getting a room at the MLK library
in downtown San Jose.
I envision several of us bringing laptops and breaking into small groups unless someone can bring a projector.
I could discuss one or more of these plugins:
- action_mailer_tls: lets you use gmail to send messages from your rails app
- acts_as_rateable: rate anything in your schema with this polymorphic thingy
- query_analyzer: automatically use the MySQL ANALYZE command on all your development and test queries and get information about what indices you need written to your logs
I could also discuss SaltedHashLoginGenerator, but that's technically not a plugin.
Anyway, let me know your thoughts. I envision these demos being fairly brief and informal so we have plenty of time to discuss other stuff.
By the way, someone mentioned they bumped into a developer looking for someone with ideas. Can you let me know who that is? I've got ideas and am looking for a partner to work on them and/or do some Rails consulting.
