ruby_boulets.rb is the premier meetup for afficionados of both Liège's traditional food (huge meatballs and fries) and the programmer's best friend (the Ruby language). Come and meet up awesome people while eating awesome food and drinking awesome beer.
The meetup will be held at different famous boulet places. Let's meet up at the La Forge, the local co-working place, before heading to the restaurant for a bouletgasm.
After the dinner there will be beer and lightning talks delivered by the members. If you have a lightning talk proposal let us know!
English will be the official language of the event. Non-French speakers are therefore VERY welcome. For those who don't eat meat, there should be vegetarian options available.
The event is limited to 20 folks and is intended to be a direct competitor of ruby_burgers.rb (pff, burgers, really? that's all you have in Brussels?).
So you don't know what boulets are? Dear god. Okay. A boulet is a huge delicious meatball (pork and beef) covered by a mouth-watering sweet and savory sauce (made using Liege's syrup), served with crispy Belgian fries and homemade mayonnaise.
You can find a recipe on the Confrerie du Gay Boulet website, a brotherhood dedicated to the preservation of this monument of gastronomy.
Coming to Liège is easy, take the train and stop in Liège Palais then walk to the pub, or Liège Guillemins (which by itself is remarkable) then take a short bus trip to the city center (line 1, 4, 25 or 48). Assuming the public transportation company (SNCB+TEC) is not on strike. Plan your trip on sncb.be.
If you're coming by car, there are numerous parkings in the downtown area.Parking Saint-Denis and Parking Cathedrale are probably your best options.
