Next gathering of the Silicon Valley Ruby on Rails meetup this Thursday, July 13th!

You are cordially invited to attend the next gathering of the Silicon Valley Ruby on Rails meetup group! Our last meeting was terrific and this one should be a good time as well. Once again, we will be meeting at Insider Pages' Redwood Shores office.

We have some great talks scheduled for this meetup. Graham Glass, founder of The Mind Electric and former CTO of webMethods, will be sharing his latest project with us, an effort to provide "free, high-quality education to anyone with internet access."

Jonathan Palley, co-founder of Idapted, Inc., technology startup developing oral language training services, will give his presentation "respond_to :voice - How rails and asterisk enable the voice interface revolution."

Says Jonathan:
"While VoIP has been touted as a cheaper form of communication, the real revolution is the voice services one can cheaply and easily build with it. This presentation will examine how rails and asterisk allow the development of applications that utilize both browser and voice interfaces. Developers of new and existing rails applications will hopefully gain new ideas and a better understanding of how they can provide voice interfaces to their system. The presentation will cover briefly the enabling technologies, examine existing solutions for integrations and discuss new solutions under development. It will also touch on scalability, deployment, integration with PSTN system, etc.

A note on compatibility: recent and upcoming presentations (railsconf, s.f. Ruby meetup) have featured presentations on Rails and Asterisk. These presentations have/will focus on how rails can be used to control asterisk as a PBX. The idea of this presentation is to take fundamentally different perspective: how asterisk can be used as an interface to a rails app."

William Chow will be sharing some of the Ruby back-end to his developer collaboration tool.

Once again, Insider Pages will be providing pizza and refreshments. Please RSVP if you have a moment. We look forward to seeing everyone there!
