BRC trail run and picnic!

Some BRC trail runners would like to get together up in Tilden or Redwood on 28 July 2013 to have a social trail run and get together for shared food, drinks and company. Still deciding on the place - open to suggestion. Lots of good first-come/first-served picnic areas in both parks.

Too bad we did not have a bigger turnout, but it was fun. Lots of great food. Sandwiches, Szechuan dishes, cupcakes, quiches, chips, sausages, drinks, salads, grilled portobellos . . . . . . . I heard there was a good run too.

Thanks Chris for hanging out for so long to hold the picnic spot while everyone ran! Fifty thumbs up for your grilled portobellos by the way!!!

It was AWESOME, great to see everyone! Sorry we had to "duck out" early for a 5 hour visit to Kaiser. Thanks for saving me some food, I was so hungry I could eat 50 burritos! We should do it again soon! :)

Thanks for taking the time for that Christian - extra karma points for helping out. Others who may be curious: the visit was not for a participant runner injury.

Not a participant running injury, more a freak accident involving a picnic guest, a skate board, and excessive speeds through the parking lot :/

It was very beautiful run in the fog at Tilden. (I saw lots of goats!) I love Tilden when it's foggy. Also great food afterward. Thanks for organizing the run and picnic, Chris. And thanks for coming early and holding the picnic area.

Hey picnickers, just a couple of details. You can find Elder picnic area along South Park Drive at the entrance to Laurel picnic area, just south of the big Padre picnic area. The sign on the road is for Laurel. Here is a link to a park map
    http://www.ebparks.org/Assets/_Nav_Categories/Parks/Maps/Tilden+map+south.pdf
Not sure if I'll have reception, but if anyone is lost, try my cell[masked]-7437.
Let's shoot for running at about 10 AM or a few minutes after, OK? I can watch the tables while others run, unless somebody wants to bring a non-running partner who is willing to hang out and wait for us!

I'm assuming I'll be able to find Elder. I intend to bring some drinks and some Louisiana Hots for grilling including some accessories (~6 persons worth). I'm ditching the Sunday Albany run so I should be there by 9:30 AM.

Hi, Would anyone be able to give me a ride from either a BART station or my house in Temescal? Also, what are the approximate distances for the short/long routes?

Hi everyone. Here is my latest idea for this event. Last month some of us had a nice time at Elder picnic area off South Park Drive in Tilden. Its first come, first serve, so I would be happy to get there early in the morning to hold a table or two. I have some charcoal and tools to bring for grilling. We could start a run at 10 (short and long, fast and slow options) while some people watch the picnic area. Do some eating and frisbee playing about noonish til whenever.
As we get close to the date, it might be nice if people posted general categories of things they want to bring - e.g. drinks, salad, chips and dip, dessert, meaty grill item, etc., just so its somewhat balanced. Might be nice to bring blankets to sit on too.
Rick, I can't find any rule on the parks website about numbers, but I don't expect we will have too many.
I'm totally open to suggestions, improvements on all of this, so let me know.

I can bring a vegetarian black bean salad and flavored seltzer water.

Great! I'll bring charcoal, BBQ grill tools, some recycled paper plates and bowls, compostable plastic utensils, some cups, portabello mushrooms to grill and some kind of dessert, and probably some chips and salsa. And a few non-alcoholic drinks.

Will only be able to make it for the picnic portion. Which picnic site?

I liked Elder. We should have a Plan B site just in case. Any suggestions?

      July 23, 2013

    • Drew

Grizzly would be a nice Plan B - just up the hill (S. Park) a ways. Go bears.

Chris - love this!!! I often do a second run after the RATS run (since I do the 3 miler). I'll be joining you guys at 10 in the future. This week I am doing the Double Dipsea on Saturday, so going to rest after RATS. But I got a marathon in Dcember!
