Skyline to the Sea Marathon/50K

I'm super excited to finally run the Skyline to the Sea event! Since this is a point-to-point course and the complicated logistics with transportation, I particularly think it's worthwhile to run this course as an organized event.

http://www.pctrailruns.com/event.aspx?dtid=9970

The trail begins at Saratoga Gap and descends from the Santa Cruz Mountains to the deep blue Pacific Ocean. Along the way you will encounter amazing views of the Monterey Bay, coastal and redwood forests, lush ferns, chaparral, exquisite sandstone formation, crystal clear waterfalls and the beauty of California wildflowers. This gorgeous venue is not to be missed.

Here's a link to a detailed map if you're curious:

Note on the last couple miles, the rolly single-track is highlighted on the map (what CTR did), but based on PCTR's description and profile, you'll stay on the flattish road down low instead.

The 50k was a closer race than I thought! I actually thought the 2nd place finisher was in the marathon. I only caught him in the last mile.

And to you too Anna for 6th woman overall for the 50K! It looks like we were all up near the front :)

I love this race. Redwoods, sun, sea--it has it all. I just wish all the downhill didn't leave me feeling like an old man.

Great day BRC! First 50k for Eric, Chris and I, first time 26.2 for Alex, overall win for Yuch, and strong performances by Kendra and Anna! What a beautiful course, pretty much perfect.. tho it's going to take a few days to foam-roll the down hill out of my quads.

Map Fiend here. I put in a link to my PDF map above. For the final couple miles, looks like PCTR is keeping it low flat and wide instead of going on the hilly single track. Yuch, this means you should have a faster time than June ;-)

Drew, the nice thing about starting at the back of the pack is that you get to pass people, rather than the other way around. :)

      October 3, 2013

    • Anna

I still think passing people is a pain; you should probably start at the front :)

    Good luck tomorrow everyone!!

Last time we did StoS, we went to the Davenport Roadhouse afterward: http://davenportroadh.... It's just down Hwy 1 from Waddell Beach and has good beer and decent veggie options.

Never been here before, but Highway 1 Brewing Company is also nearby: http://www.highway1br.... Yelp reviews say the beer is good, but there's not a lot of veggie options on the menu.

If we were all going back via Hwy 84, I'd suggest Alice's: http://www.alicesrest.... Or, if people are feeling brave, Apple Jack's: http://www.yelp.com/b... (wouldn't recommend eating there, though--it fully deserves its "dive bar" categorization).

All things considered, Davenport Roadhouse is probably the best option, being just a few miles from the race finish. So I guess that's my suggestion. Either that, or we can just hang out with Peter's cooler. :)
