Prickly Pear 10 Mile and 50K

This a great way to get your first ultra under your belt with the 50k, and the 10 mile course makes a nice training run.

• This trail race has two events - a 50K which starts at 7 AM and the 10 Miler which starts at 8:30 AM. The 50K is three 10 mile loops with a short out and back to an aid / bag-drop station in each. The 10 miler is one 10 mile loop.

• Both events are chip timed

• .Aid stations at approximately miles 2, 4, 7 and finish. The 7 mile station is a bag-drop station and is 100 yards from the start /finish. All aid stations stocked with water, Quench, ice, Hammer Gel, typical ultra snacks, sandwiches, candy, boiled potatoes and salt.

• Both events start and finish at Pavilion #3, McAllister Park, San Antonio, TX.

• From Jones-Maltsberger entrance, take the main road into the park, go to stop sign and take a left. Go until you hit a 4 way stop - the race pavilion is on the left just ahead. From Starcrest entrance, take the main road for about 1 mile. Race pavilion will be on the right at the 4 way stop.

• Medical support will be available on-site.

• NOTE: This is a trail race! Water stations are not evenly spaced and more limited than road races. It is encouraged for runners to carry water with them. The trails are rocky and could be very muddy if we have had recent rains. Wear appropriate footwear. This race will be run rain or shine (as long as the park is open).

• Packet pick-up will be on March 6th and 7th from 11 AM to 7 PM at iRun Texas (Bitters Location), 2602 NW Loop 1604, Bldg 1, Suite 106, San Antonio, TX 78248 (phone[masked])

I decided to do the 50K the day before...big mistake. No time to train, wrong shoes and first time running a trail...ever. I completed 2 of the 3 laps which was 20.6 miles. That is more than I have ever run, so that is something to be proud of. I only recognized one person from the group. Wish I knew more people that maybe could have helped keep me going but I am new to the group. Can't wait for my next challenge!

Rudy, Good job for accomplishing the first 2 loops. It was humid and extra weight on your shoes made harder to run. I suggested to upload your profile picture so we can fine you next time.
