Patapsco Trail Run

Let's run some trails in the Patapsco Glen Artney area.

We'll start on the Soapstone trail and then incorporate portions of the Vineyard Spring and Santee Branch trails, with an optional side excursion along Bull Run. Total distance should be 5-6 mi (I plan to measure the route this weekend to double check).

There is parking along Rolling Rd, where the Soapstone trail starts. However, the lot is very popular with mountain bikers so if there isn't space available, park at the Park-n-Ride listed as the address of the meetup and walk over.

Afterwards we can eat nearby if people want. We've gone to pizza in Catonsville and the Fish Head Cantina in Halethorpe.

    Is anyone else coming?

Oh shoot! I left about 6:10 since I didn't see anyone. I figured I'd run at Wincopin instead. I thought I saw someone sitting on the trunk and changing shoes as I drove off. Sorry about that!

Haha, no worries! I was wondering where you'd gone. I'll catch you next time.

Looks like everyone is bailing. I think I'm going to stick close to home. Hope you schedule another one soon

I'm gonna have to pass on this one after today's weather

    June 13, 2013

  • Karl

Oh I understand, everyone. It was really bleak out a few mins ago but seems to be clearing. I'm still planning to go but then I'm just down 195 from Patapsco. I'm not sure I'd drive very far in this weather given the storm uncertainty!

    June 13, 2013

  • Paul

Sorry folks. I'm not going even drive this at the moment. See you all soon

The storm is over in the city but there is no way I will be able to get there by 6. :( I'm sure it will be a fun run!

    Don't wait for me.

Sorry guys - storm seems sketchy. But I look forward to running with you all soon! I'll try again for next week...

Thanks for the update...seems like we might be ok

I have my eye on the weather forecast, and see there is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect between 4p and 7p. However it also looks like the worst part will pass to our south. I still plan to go, based on current conditions... if there is a torrential downpour around 5:30ish I'll reevaluate. ;)

  • Lisa

Sorry I can't make it. Have fun!

    Prob won't make it :(

I ran the trail just now, just to see how it is. There are a few muddy spots and the usual streams are a bit larger - which is also good news in case you feel you lack "trail cred" because your trail shoes are too clean. ;)

Planned route: http://connect.garmin.com/activity/326563758 and of course there is always Bull Run to add on if people want.

Well, after the rain the past couple of days it should be kind of muddy and slick down there. They were using a front end loader to clear the mud and debris from Rolling Rd at the base of Gun Rd. Watch your steps down there. I have to tentatively bail on this... forgot the Red Sox were in town.

    June 11, 2013

    • Kim

Yeah, I was wondering about the conditions down there. It's could be a messy run with some possible deep-ish water crossings. We may want to be prepared for mud and to get wet (don't wear your nicest shoes/running gear) :-)

Whoops, I was really looking forward to this, then I remembered I'm running the Baltimore 10 miler this weekend and therefore Thursday trails would be a terrible idea. Next time!

This is something I would like to attend but I am not sure I'd make it in time from Towson. Would you consider organizing something on a Saturday in Patapsco park and ride area?

    June 8, 2013

    • Karl

Sure! I've held trail run meetups (from the Rockburn area) some weekend mornings. I'm going to look at the calendar and put a few up soon.

Forgot to add - we've also run at Cromwell.

I have a volleyball game in Baltimore at 9:15, so I may have to duck out early, but I should be able to make it.

I was just about to say, I'm in the slow runner group. My pace is usually 12 to 11 min/mi but depends.

Sounds fun. I "run" in here a lot, and also ride my bike. However, I'm a very slow runner when zone training...projected pace?

    May 20, 2013

    • Karl

The pace will be between 10 and 12 min/mi. We'll wait at major intersections so nobody gets lost. That may sound slow but it actually isn't for trails!

      May 20, 2013

    • Kim

Put me in the "very slow runner" group
