These evening meetings will focus on specific conversation topics so that beginners and intermediate students can prepare and participate in the Russian conversations with the more advanced students and native speakers. This time the topic will be physical appearance (with an emphasis on clothing). Here are sample questions to give you an idea:
What do you like to wear in different seasons?
Has this changed over the years?
Do you often feel cold in Portland?
Do you dress differently on rainy days?
What do you wear to work?
What are your favorite colors?
What colors are the clothes you wear the most?
What colors do you dislike wearing?
Do you wear different colors in the summer than the winter?
Do people dress differently here than in other places where you've lived and traveled?
What are the fashion trends today?
Do you prefer to wear a belt?
Why do people wear belts?
How has your hair style changed over the years?
Do you wear a watch even though your phone tells the time?
Everyone is welcome whether you prepare in advance or not. However, lower-level students might feel more at home by studying vocabulary ahead of time: about clothing, colors, seasons, months, weather, accessories and jewelry. Intermediate students could add cloth patterns (striped, plaid, etc.), hair styles, facial hair, grooming activities (to comb your hair, etc.), and make sure they can ask questions like these in Russian.
