Informal get-together and beer (central area)

There hasn't been a meeting close to downtown Portland in a long time. This will be an unstructured, informal get-together for people to meet each other. Speak Russian, English, or both. Native speakers, beginning learners of Russian, people interested in culture only--everyone's invited.

Whoever arrives first, please grab a large table or a couple of big booths next to each other. I'll almost certainly arrive late, so start without me. Monday was selected so that the bar won't be crowded.

Mass transit centers can use bus 8, 17, or 77. Located a few blocks northeast of Lloyd Center.

It was great meeting everyone at this relaxed event. Look forward to more meetups in the future, especially if shashlik will be involved.

Shashlik! The pressure of correct pronunciation is off when speaking with a mouthful of meat. :-) I liked the meetup yesterday and look forward to more with all of you.

We had a nice conversation in both languages in the Billiard Room of the bar--we were fortunate to have the room to ourselves. I think people liked that bar, both for its ambiance and its location. I'll continue to create similar meetings there in the future, once every month or two, for as long as people continue to attend. The informal (unstructured) format worked well, too.

I might try to make it for a while but I'm double-booked this evening and parking downtown is my least favorite thing.

I visited the bar yesterday. It's not noisy, at least not on Mondays. The music is always kept at a low level, so it's quiet enough for us to hear each other. The staff is willing to turn it down further if requested. A Swedish-language conversation group meets there every week. It's a nice place, but a little hard to find because it's on the 2nd floor. There's an entrance to it next to Starbucks and an elevator in the back of the building. Street parking is available, for example on 16th Ave. (one block away).

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
