What about JavaScript interests you the most?

I think JavaScript is about to take over the world. OK, maybe not quite yet, but it looks promising. We have Node.js and Rhino to build server-side apps, PhoneGap/Titanium for mobile devices, WinJS for Windows 8 desktop apps and I think Gnome has adopted JS as the language of choice for it's UI widgets. I want to tap into that vibe and see where it takes. Oh, and along the way I want to learn about Backbone, Angular, Ember, Node, Grunt and whatever else comes along that could be of use.

What about JavaScript interests you the least?

I'm not really interested in the heavy component-based frameworks like ExtJs. I also don't get that excited about the latest whiz-bang jQuery plugin. I like jQuery and feel that it has really contributed to the recent success of JavaScript, but I am ready to work with abstractions to help me build more maintainable, testable and better performing js apps.

What do you hope to get from this meetup?

I hope to find other developers in RVA that are as interested in JS as I. For most devs who work with server frameworks (i.e. .Net, Java, Rails, ...), JavaScript is an after thought at best and a pain in the a*** at worst. I want to meet up with people who look at JavaScript and see potential, not pain.
