Happy Oktoberfest — err — October, UXers! The government might be shut down, but we're not going anywhere. (Helps when you don't have a budget in the first place!)
This month's talk: Web & UX skills only get you so far.
This is an incredible time to be a web and user experience professional, with many great jobs available and new ones being created all the time. Getting a new job or thinking about advancing your career in your current one might seem like a matter of good skills, experience and solid knowledge of the field, but that only gets you part of the way there. In this workshop, Cory Lebson discusses all the ways that you need to get out in the larger web/UX world, beyond your job, and perhaps beyond your comfort zone to increase your future career potential - and find your own UX adventure.
The first hour will be spent on talk/discussion, followed by Q&A.
After the event, come join us for a networking mixer (location TBA - suggestions?).
Discussion 6 PM – 7 PM
• Assessing your goals: Where do you want to go professionally?
• Critical importance of networking: virtual vs. in-person
• Prepare your elevator pitch (exercise)
• UX Adventure: Unpaid activities are as valuable as paid activities
• The value of Tech and UX orgs
• Should you go off on your own?
• Success is tangible
