GMNP Training Hike - Hill Country State Natural Area

  • Jul 6, 2014 · 8:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

While this hike is open to everyone, I'd like those who are going on the Guadalupe Mountains National Park trip to attend if possible. It would be great to meet as a group prior to the trip.

Join us for a hike at Hill Country State Natural Area in Bandera. We will depart from the park's headquarters at exactly 8:00 AM. Please arrive a few minutes before starting time. Also, the park office won't be open at that time, so bring a pen so you can fill out the self-pay envelope.

This is a moderate hike and we will proceed at an average pace of about 3.4 miles an hour. Please consider your experience and abilities carefully when determining if you are going to attend as this is not a hike for beginners.

For this hike we will go to the west and hike about 8-10 miles of the scenic views and sweeping vistas with about 1000 feet of elevation gain. Please bring sufficient amount of water, light snack and wear good hiking shoes.

Unless you have an annual pass, it costs $6 to enter the park.  You do not need to pay if you ride with someone who has an annual park pass.

For those who would like to carpool, meet at 6:45 AM at the old HEB gas station at 1604 and Bandera Road (the gas station is located on Bandera inside of the loop 1604). Please indicate when you RSVP if you plan on meeting at the carpool spot so others can watch out for you. Don't forget to chip in for gas if you ride with someone.

Privacy Notice:  You are welcome to take as many photos as you wish.  But please ask for permission before you take a photo of any member of the group and do ask for permission if you intend to post his or her photo to the web.

Please call me if you have any questions:[masked]-0796. Mobile connection is poor or non-existent in the park, so call or text me earlier if you need something.

Location: 10600 Bandera Creek Rd, Bandera, TX 78003

Hi, Ofelia-this is a beautiful park, but it will be 95 on Sunday and the trails are sometimes difficult to follow. You definitely don't want to hike alone. As stated above, this is not a beginner hike. We will proceed at a brisk pace and will be going up and down steep hills and covering several miles. I recommend you attended a hike at this park in the fall when the weather is cooler and you have a friend available to attend with you.
